Description
The substitute teacher is hired with the understanding that his/her association with Father Lopez Catholic High School is on a substitute basis, as needed, because of the absence of a regular faculty member. They are to maintain as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures for the school and the class to which assigned.
- Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures. When using RenWeb mark only an ‘A’ for absences, do not mark present.
- Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Ensures that all student cell phones and devices are put away appropriately.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Knows and follows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
- May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
- Knows and follows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
- Knows and follows school procedures and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the sub coordinator.
Requirements

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education.
- Related experience in similar position is preferred.
- General knowledge in several subjects as well as teaching certificate are a plus.
Organizational/Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
Language/Communication Skills:
- The ability to lead and instruct students of all ages as well as to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
- Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 15 pounds.
- Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking and walking.
- Also includes the ability to see items close.
