Floriculture Crew Member

Skills

• Adaptability: demonstrate a high capacity for innovation, problem-solving, and prioritization
• Attention to detail: accurately address issues with plant health and overall display of seasonal color throughout the properties
• Basic Math: accurately calculate square footage, quantities of materials, and fertilizer and pesticide dosages
• Collaboration and communication: work effectively with other crew members and staff members across the organization
• Horticultural knowledge: understand plant growth cycles, common diseases/pests, and best practices for seasonal color care
• Irrigation Systems: basic working knowledge (preferred)
• Passion to cultivate beautiful and functional seasonal color displays while serving our clients and stewarding their landscapes attentively

Responsibilities

• Follow design specifications to prepare, plant, and water-in all seasonal color containers and beds
• Follow work orders to plant and water-in a variety of spring-flowering bulbs (i.e., tulips, daffodils, crocus)
• Prune, deadhead, water, and fertilize to achieve the highest quality of plant health and appearance in all containers and beds
• Control weeds and pests, including the application of fertilizers and other chemicals, as needed, in all containers and beds
• Maintain the inventory of seasonal color plant materials in our greenhouse area, inspecting for pests, deadheading, and managing water and nutrient levels
• Support other departments throughout the year, such as assisting with the set-up of seasonal decorations and displays

Requirements

• Ability to carry 80 pounds
• Ability to access and navigate our bulk yard, loading areas, office space, and other aspects of our facilities
• Strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physical work outdoors, especially during hot and cold weather conditions. Such work includes lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Current valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check, in accordance with legal provisions
