What are the responsibilities and job description for the GPS Technician position at Faulconer Construction Company?
Summary of Duties:
The GPS Technician reports directly to the GPS/Drone Manager and works closely with each Area Manager, project managers, supervisors, foremen, the equipment shop and the GPS modeling subcontractor. The GPS Technician is responsible for the job duties listed below. The GPS Technician shall conduct business in a professional manner, strive for team excellence, and emphasize Faulconer’s Core Values at all times.
Essential Functions: The GPS Technician’s duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Schedule, communicate, prioritize & coordinate all GPS model needs for area of responsibility
- Upload GPS models into data collector and GPS-equipped earth moving equipment in the field
- Support external GPS model development subcontractor
- Perform initial site setup and calibration of GPS equipment
- Troubleshoot issues with GPS equipment when they arise in the field
- Support and assist project estimating and operation teams
- Work with field teams to train for and ensure proper utilization of GPS equipment
- Read and understand civil construction plans and specifications
- Conduct (or review) drone mapping for pre-bid and pre-construction topographical information and report any discrepancies between existing site conditions and contract details
- Conduct (or review) periodic topographical checks during site development using GPS base station and rover or drone mapping
- Assist with AGTEK and Takeoffs
- Ensure post project photos are completed for marketing purposes
- Other duties as assigned
Travel:
- Jobsite visits on a regular basis
- Travel throughout Virginia as this position covers all areas in Virginia. Jobsite visits in NC may be necessary based on department availability and business need. Multi-day hotel stays in the areas of work are required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree 1-2 years working in a construction environment
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Familiarity with construction processes
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience in earthwork modeling software and CAD programs
- Experience using Trimble GPS base station, rover and data collector
- Experience or willingness to learn drone operations and acquire remote pilot license
- Knowledge of construction surveying principals
- Ability to read and understand civil construction plans and specifications
- Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies (AGTEK, Procore, Propeller, etc.)
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks quickly and accurately
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite Detail oriented and organized
Work Authorization / Security Clearance:
- Employee must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Drug screen is required prior to employment and further drug screens may be administered at random.
- A background check will be required.
- A confidentiality agreement may be required.
