What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Coordinator position at Fauquier County Government?
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:
The purpose of this classification is to administer the operation, planning, program, staff, and facility of the summer Day Camp Programs at a particular site under the direct supervision of Recreation Programmer Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates all staff.
-Makes adjustments to staff and activity schedules as needed with consultation of Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Is responsible for the smooth operation of camp and reports problems to the Recreation Program Coordinator immediately.
- Organizes, adjusts, and implements a successful recreational day camp program, tailoring it to suit individual camper needs.
- Ensures the safety rules and regulations are observed.
- Handles camper disciplinary issues and communication to parents.
- Attends camp training and staff meetings.
- Assists in recruiting of staff, and advises Recreation Program Coordinator on staff issues.
- Maintains and submits accurate records and reports on camp operations
- Reports to Recreation Program Coordinator when supplies/equipment needs replacing.
- Sees that camp and facilities are maintained properly.
- Translates department policies into action through personal leadership.
- Consults with Recreation Program Coordinator before making a major decision.
- Knowledgeable of emergency procedures and fire/medical contacts.
- Performs first aid and administers medication as required, and reports incidents when necessary.
- Operates under the guidelines of the established department safety and supervisory standards for full day camps.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Participates in Medication Administration Training and obtains certification.
- Completes Mandated Reporter Training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICTIONS:
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Applicant must permit a state of Virginia Central Records Historical background check.
- Have at least one college course in business related field or 10 hours of management training or 6 months of management experience and have completed at least 48 semester hours of college credits in child related field and 6 months of programmatic experience or high school diploma/equivalent and 12 months of programmatic experience.
