Job Overview:
The Medical Billing Specialist performs a wide range of back-office duties involving patient and insurance payment responsibilities. The Medical Billing Specialist will work independently to process patient payments and work insurance claims to ensure the practice is reimbursed for the services provided. An individual in this position should be detail-oriented and well-versed in the medical billing process.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Verifies patient bills for accuracy prior to posting charges
- Verifies insurance bills for accuracy prior to claims submission
- Verifies that correct CPT and ICD-10 codes are used on each bill/claim
- Processes claims via practice management system
- Contacts patients and insurance companies to resolve any billing issues
- Documents all follow-up efforts in practice management system
- Resolves claim denials in a timely manner
- Provides accounts receivables follow-up functions for assigned accounts
- Assists patients with account questions
- Establishes patient payment plans as necessary
- Completes audits as necessary
- Provides assistance in completing other RCM tasks when necessary
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPC, CCS, CPB certification(s) a plus
About us and location:
Privately owned ophthalmology practice which provides general medical/surgical ophthalmology and optometric services, as well as our own in-house optical dispensary and accredited, Medicare-approved ambulatory surgical center. Our staff includes: an MD owner/CEO, an MD, 2 OD’s, and 30 support staff.
Schedule:
- Full-time and part-time positions available
- Monday through Friday office hours
- No weekends, no late nights
COVID-19 Considerations:
Work is performed in a medical practice environment and involves frequent contact with staff and patients. We follow the guidance and recommendations provided by the CDC PA Dept. of Health. Currently, applicants are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
