What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time/Full-time Optician position at Fava & Maria Eye Associates?
Our opticians contribute to Fava & Maria Eye Associates’ mission of maintaining our status as the gold-standard in Vision care services in our area. Our opticians will perform a wide range of duties focused on maintaining patient satisfaction by providing patients with the best product for them. The optician will work one-on-one with patients to determine what frames/lenses would best suit the patients’ needs and we are able to choose from an infinite variety of frames and lens styles to suite our individual patients’ requirements and desires. Opticians at our practice are expected to be proficient in optical lab work in addition to frame/lens selection. An individual in this position should be detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a sense of fashion and style.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assists patients in selecting frames/lenses according to style, color, shape, and preference, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and ophthalmic prescription.
- Fills eyeglass prescriptions specified by OD and checks final product for accuracy.
- Makes final adjustment to eyewear to the satisfaction of the patients.
- Measures patients’ bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, papillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.
- Prepares orders for outsourced lab work, including instructions for grinding, coating, and fabricating eyeglasses.
- Maintains retail inventory which involves ordering frames, lenses, and other supplies from vendors.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with optical labs, frame reps, and equipment suppliers for the purpose of ordering patient lenses, purchasing inventory, collecting equipment/product info, and/or resolving equipment/product issues.
- Preparing lenses using in-house optical lab equipment.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- At least one year of optical experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- ABO certification a plus
- Familiarity with optical lab work a plus

Work is performed in a medical practice environment and involves frequent contact with staff and patients. We follow the guidance and recommendations provided by the CDC PA Dept. of Health. Currently, all applicants are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to be considered for the position.
