Lower School Learning and Math Specialist

Description:
The Learning and Math Specialist collaborates with colleagues within the Learning Services Department, Math Department, and in the Lower School, grades 3-6. This teacher provides individual and small group support to students with documented learning differences and reports to the Director of Learning Services and the Division Head. The Learning and Math Specialist may teach one lower school math course and also push-in to math classrooms to support students. This position also includes coaching or leading other afternoon student activities for two terms. This position is full-time with benefits. On-campus housing may be available.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of middle school teaching experience and hold a bachelor’s degree in math education, special education, or a related field. A master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School
Demonstrating academic excellence through a knowledge of Fay’s core curriculum
Preparing and delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate math lessons to lower school students
Utilizing technology to enhance instruction and learning
Issuing effort grades and comments for students in a timely manner
Collaboration with the Math Department Chairperson to support student learning and intervention strategies
Partnering with the Director of Learning Services and teachers to implement recommendations from individual neuropsychological evaluations
Collaborating on the writing of and adhering to individualized learning profiles and managing appropriate school-based accommodations
Providing information to teachers to understand students’ learning profiles; supporting teachers with observational data about students’ experience and performance in classes
Attending grade-level team meetings and all required meetings of the faculty and the Learning Services Department
Delivering strategy-based academic support to students with documented learning differences, including math skills, executive functioning skills, writing, reading comprehension, and problem-solving
