Fayette County Drug and Alcohol Commission is seeking a Prevention Specialist to be part of a collaborative team whose goals are to reduce use and misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and prevent problem gambling in Fayette County communities.
The Prevention Specialist will be primarily responsible for working with Student Assistance Program (SAP) which is a systematic team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning. SAP is designed to assist in identifying issues including alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and mental health issues which pose a barrier to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school. Other responsibilities include substance abuse and/or problem gambling prevention related endeavors throughout Fayette County. Duties include maintaining knowledge of prevention as it relates to written and digital resources and engaging with youth and adults with those resources in a variety of settings. Prevention specialists are required to participate in ongoing training that is designed to develop skills and knowledge in the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and problem gambling. Liaising between schools and mental health and drug and alcohol resources through the SAP process.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health, education, the social or behavioral sciences or related fields, communications, or marketing. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships, the ability to manage complex schedules and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to successfully prepare and deliver high quality presentations to various audiences. Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple projects. Professional demeanor. Self-directed, while being able to function as part of a team. Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining focus on clear solutions. Familiarity with the local community. Detail oriented. Must possess a passion for FCDAC’s mission. Employee must have a willingness to travel (including periodic evening and weekend events) and access to reliable transportation.
Candidates must complete a pre-employment, post hire drug screen.

Pay: $31,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
