What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Inspector position at Fayette County Health Department?
Summary: The Health Inspector is responsible for conducting food inspections in Fayette County food establishments, as well as conducting activities related to the Smoke Free Illinois program.
Normal Work Hours: 5-10 hours a week, with the possibility of weekend and after hours work due to trainings or temporary food establishment events, after hours inspections, speaking engagements, or emergency preparedness events.
Necessities:
- Must keep the identity and health information of all clients confidential at all times.
- Must maintain valid driver's license, registration, and vehicle insurance and be able to drive his/her vehicle for any work assignments.
- Must follow DCFS mandated reporting requirements.
- Must process strong leadership ability and excellent people skills.
- Must successfully pass a fingerprint and background check.
- Must be available after hours and on weekends if needed.
Physical Demands of the Job:
- Must be able to bend and stoop repetitively.
- Must be able to be on one's feet for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to work at a computer station for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift required equipment, which is normally 20 pounds or less.
- Must be mobile enough to fulfill the job requirements which include the ability to get in and out of the vehicle, traverse rough terrains, and enter spaces that may be totally handicap inaccessible.
Environmental Factors:
- Must be able to work in confined spaces as needed.
- Must be able to work in conditions of extreme cold or heat as needed.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
- Makes routine inspections in food establishments.
- Prepares activity reports of inspections and investigations.
- Communicates effectively the results of food inspections to owner or manager.
- Completes inspection reports to document findings of inspections and investigations.
- Completes Certified Food Protection Manager training.
- Enforces and explains program rules and requirements with the public.
- Establishes effective working relationships with the general public, school officials, community leaders, and governmental officials.
- Completes new sanitarian training.
- Completes continuing education as required by the Comprehensive Health Protection Grant.
- Develops, organizes and coordinates Smoke Free Illinois program.
- Prepares and submits required Smoke Free Illinois quarterly reports.
- Provides community education about available resources for smoking cessation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a High School diploma or its equivalent. Associate's degree in science field preferred.
- Requires experience working in the food industry.
