Position Expectations
Fayetteville Academy seeks a history teacher who is passionate about leading students through a robust and thoughtful course curriculum. A successful Academy teacher demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for young people, a joy for teaching, and the ability to make learning fun, engaging, and relatable. All history courses focus strongly not only on developing historical knowledge but on skill development, including writing, research, and source analysis. This role includes maintaining lesson plans, assignments and essays, progress reports, and grades.
Given the talented and collaborative nature of the history department faculty, specific course assignments are determined based on the successful candidate’s passion and strengths. The Academy’s current history course catalog includes:
7th Grade Civics, 8th Grade World Geography, Ancient CIvilizations, Modern World History and AP Modern World History, American Government and AP American Government, a two-semester US History course offered through a joint enrollment partnership at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, US History, Economics, AP Seminar, and AP Research.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in history (with a master’s degree preferred) and at least three to five years of teaching experience in either middle or high school education. Independent school experience is preferable but not required. Effective communication with students, parents and colleagues is essential. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, a sense of humor, and skillful and enthusiastic collaboration are also important for this position.
