GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The High School Assistant Principal shall work directly under the building principal. Responsible for assisting the High School Principal with leading and managing the high school and staff. Completing projects, duties and responsibilities as directed and working to provide the best learning environment for the high school students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Discipline of students.
- Student attendance with assistance from other school personnel.
- Supervision of students during school hours and after-school activities.
- Supervise and/or direct all school related responsibilities as assigned by building principal such as maintenance, parking, equipment, keys, calendar, daily announcements, security, etc.
- Assist the principal in observing employee performance, recording observations, and evaluating personnel as assigned.
- Administration of district policies and regulations within the school in the absence of the principal.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Organize building wide testing including logistical operations and staff training.
- Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in accomplishing the mission.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate degree (M.E.D., M.A., etc), plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 3 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
