Salary : GS 13 $106,$138,

In order to recruit and retain highly qualified candidates, selectees may be eligible to receive a 25% relocation incentive. To be eligible for a relocation incentive, proof of change in residency will be required. Prior to receiving a relocation incentive, an employee must sign a written agreement to complete a specific period of employment with the FBI at the new duty station. THIS IS NOT A COST TRANSFER.

Key Requirements

Physical Demands

  • The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling and similar activities. The ACSO engages in such exertions when, for example, they assist in the inspection of office buildings or industrial facilities. Performance of work may take place in attics, crawlspaces, walls, ceilings, and other limited access spaces, in rough terrain or in construction sites. The work may regularly involve lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects of 50 pounds or less. The work may require some common characteristics and abilities of physical agility and dexterity to work in confined spaces.
  • Work Environment

  • The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high levels of noise, high temperatures in confined spaces, or adverse weather conditions. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, googles, gloves, or shields.
  • Major Duties

  • Serves as the local ACSO to handle facets of security policy administration, primarily personnel and physical security. Will assist the Chief Security Officer (CSO) in all security assigned functions to include areas such as Communication Security (COMSEC), Continuity of Operations (COOP), Occupant Emergency Program (OEP), and Industrial and Information Security.
  • Provides direct support and service to the administration of the FBI Security Program by participating in the direction, from inception to completion, of complex security clearance access.
  • Provides briefings, trainings, leadership, advice, and guidance related to personnel security reporting requirements.
  • Establishes and implements local security procedural systems; and where appropriate, interprets, designs, develops, evaluates, and sometimes installs protection systems and devices to combat malicious interference.
  • Independently plans, schedules, coordinates, facilitates, and monitors the effectiveness of the operation of security programs.
  • Assists in the inspection of office buildings or industrial facilities, large military complexes, or remote sites.
  • May serve as the OEP Coordinator, participate in a Facility Security Committee (FSC), or serve as a CSO in the absence of the CSO.

    GS 13 : Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 12 grade level. SE is defined as follows :

  • Performed security and administration work in  two or more functional security areas- Personnel Security, Physical Security, COOP, OEP, Information Security, COMSEC, and Industrial Security.
  • Processed and reviewed records of information regarding background / security-related investigations.
  • Provided leadership by developing and implementing training, assigning work, developing deadlines, and identifying resources needed to complete a project.
  • Participated in audits and inspections of secure areas and made recommendations to management on policy and procedure changes being implemented to improve security.
  • Prepared and Presented comprehensive and concise written reports to brief management on a variety of complex security assessment investigations.
  • Ensured compliance with current policy and security-based directives.
  • Resumes must articulate proficiency in Personnel, Physical, Industrial, and Information Security as well as Emergency Preparedness / COOP.

  • Relocation expenses will be borne by the selectee, except FBI employees returning from LEGAT assignment. Employees returning from LEGAT assignments must advise the Staffing and Administrative Unit / International Operations Division of their application for this position.
  • Current tax law impacts your transfer by making your moving expense reimbursements taxable. Please contact for information regarding taxable expenses. For additional insight on the personal impact of the IRS tax rules, you may wish to contact the IRS or a tax professional. Federal Travel Regulation provides that the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) plus the Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) are designed to "substantially reimburse" an employee for the additional Federal, State, and Local taxes associated with a change of duty station and the FBI has the authority to compensate employees through the WTA and RITA.
  • Candidates receiving a transfer of physical location, whether at the expense of the FBI or not, will be required to complete a one-year commitment to the assignment, prior to moving to a new position at the FBI. The 12-month waiting period begins the day an employee reports for duty at the new location.
  • Employees selected for promotions at the GS 12 level or higher, as well as employees selected for positions where a transfer of location is required, will be processed through the name check program prior to being notified of their selection.
  • Memorandum for Record : Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on a SF-50, i. e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position. The following notations must be specified in the documentation (Memorandum for Record) :
  • a. Percent of time worked in the particular position (cannot conflict with main duties)

    b. The month / year work began

    c. Frequency worked (, daily, monthly, etc.)

    d. Specific duties performed
