Commercial Underwriter

What you’ll do:
- Respond to and resolve customer service requests according to FBL Financial Group, Inc., policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other FBL personnel at all times.
- Select and re-underwrite risks for commercial lines of business in conformance with existing company practices and procedures.
- Communicate with Underwriting staff, agents and policyholders as necessary to properly carry out the functions of underwriting.
- Communicate with re-insurer to obtain adequate insurance capacity for individual risks.
- Maintain proper communication, harmony and understanding with other departments and agency force.
- Assist in conducting agent training programs.
- Mentor and train staff at the Associate Underwriter level, as needed.
What it takes to join our team:
- College degree or equivalent
- Must keep up-to-date regarding state and federal compliance rules and regulations.
- Must have good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to negotiate and cope with stressful situations.
- Computer/keyboard skills as appropriate to this position.
- Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.
- Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
