Job Title : Pipe Welder
Job Location : Norfolk, VA
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced pipe welder to join our team. The pipe welder will be responsible for welding, installing, and repairing pipes and pipe systems in accordance with established procedures and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of welding techniques, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings to ensure proper fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding duties on a variety of pipe systems, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy materials.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand pipe layout and welding requirements.
- Set up and operate welding machines and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Use various welding techniques, including TIG, MIG, stick, and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), to join pipes and pipe fittings.
- Inspect and test welded joints for quality, ensuring they meet the required specifications and standards.
- Ensure proper alignment and fit of pipes using clamps, braces, and welding machines.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
- Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
- Perform additional duties as required by the welding supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in welding is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a pipe welder, preferably in a shipyard or industrial setting.
- Proficient in welding techniques such as TIG, MIG, stick, and FCAW.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of pipefitting and fabrication processes.
- Experience with various welding positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
- Solid understanding of welding codes and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality workmanship.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in pipe welding (e.g., ASME, AWS).
- Experience with shipbuilding, ship repair, or large-scale industrial projects.
- Knowledge of advanced welding techniques and procedures.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $31.00 - $35.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
