We are looking for a Product Investigator to join our Environmental & Safety Investigations and Campaign Execution. These critically important positions are primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive technical investigations related to vehicle environmental, safety and compliance.
The Product Investigator will guide the organization through the defect determination process for field issues and will present findings/recommendations to senior management for a decision. In this role, the Product Investigator will learn about the environmental and safety-related performance expectations for our products and will learn how those expectations affect our product designs, manufacturing, and supplier quality processes. The issues being studied will challenge and develop the investigator's abilities to distill data, draw conclusions and recommend actions. The Environmental & Safety Investigations and Campaign Execution team is a collaborative group which works with many different functional groups across all disciplines, reporting levels, and regions to effectively manage and lead all product investigations to determine root cause and related information. Day to day job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Working with internal teams (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, quality, service, and legal) to gather critical data as part of the investigation
Leading interactions with internal and external teams to find the root cause and determine corrective action plans
Accessing a variety of advanced ('big data') tools and receive training in advanced data analysis
Searching and analyzing field data from corporate databases to support investigative work
Preparing documents, reports, presentations, and demonstrations for discussions with management and/or governmental agencies
Maintaining thorough and complete records on an internal database
Obtaining components and technical information from subject matter experts necessary to support analysis
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university (other degrees with relevant work experience may be considered)
Minimum five (5) years of experience in automotive engineering; such as releasing, resident engineering, quality, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse cross functional teams
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to critical deadlines
Self-starter with the ability to adjust and adapt to changing inputs within an investigation
Effective oral and written communication skills
Advanced problem solving and root cause analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or advanced engineering degree
Emissions related background/experience
Powertrain calibration experience
Experience with code or federal regulation in mobile/vehicle emissions and fuel economy testing
Vehicle testing background - chassis dyno testing and an understanding of coast down testing
