JOB SUMMARY:
Prepare tax returns for individuals, small businesses, trusts and small estates.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Computes taxes owed or overpaid and complete entries on forms, following tax form instructions and tax tables.
- Prepares simple to complex tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
- Uses all appropriate adjustments, deductions and credits to keep client’s taxes to the legal minimum.
- Interviews clients to obtain additional information on taxable income and deductible expenses.
- Reviews financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenses to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns.
- Consults tax law handbooks or bulletins to determine procedures for preparation of atypical returns.
- Calculates form preparation fees according to return complexity and processing time required.
- Checks data input and verifies totals to detect errors in arithmetic, data entry or procedures.
- Interacts positively with clients regarding their personal tax situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL SKILLS NEEDED:
- Strong and professional communication skills – verbal and written.
- Mathematic orientation
- Working knowledge of current federal and state tax laws and procedures
- Strong technology skills, along with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), traditional office products (copiers, fax machines, ten-keys, phones, etc.) and computers/software specific to tax preparation
- Ability to display proper phone etiquette and customer service skills.
- Strong writing skills – uses accurate word usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation in all written correspondence.
- Conflict Resolution: Remains professional when dealing with challenging situations.
- Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems timely and able to troubleshoot errors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Teamwork – contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Basic understanding of the banking industry, regulations, policies and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S./B.A. in business, accounting, management or similar field (preferred). Equivalent tax industry experience may be considered.
- 3 – 5 years of tax industry experience (preferred)
- Enrolled Agent or CPA (preferred)
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
- Constantly uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, calculators and fax machines
- Availability during core banking hours (i.e. Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm), during the tax season (approximately January – May). Flexible to work as needed to review tax returns.
- Occasionally requires local travel including offsite trainings and meetings.
- Regularly remains in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
- Constantly moves about the inside of the Bank to access supplies and equipment and to assist customers and coworkers
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee regularly is required to lift up to 15 lbs.
- Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced, changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures and written instructions, as well as verbal instructions or directions from their supervisor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
