Position Summary
The Lead Grinder Operator is responsible for overseeing and managing a team of grinders while operating heavy equipment on construction sites. This role involves leading the team in the safe and efficient operation of machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and graders.
The Grinder Lead ensures that all tasks, including material handling, digging, grading, and trenching, are completed according to project specifications and safety protocols. They also conduct equipment checks, perform routine maintenance, and communicate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and project managers to ensure smooth workflow and operational efficiency.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, and backhoes.
- Perform tasks such as digging, grading, trenching, and material handling as required by project specifications.
- Lead and manage a team of Grinders, overseeing their daily tasks and ensuring efficient and safe operation of all machinery.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior grinders, ensuring they follow best practices for safety and operation.
- Schedule and delegate tasks to ensure all work is completed on time and according to project specifications.
- Monitor team performance, providing feedback, addressing concerns, and implementing improvements to workflow.
- Foster a positive team environment, encouraging collaboration and clear communication among all Grinders and crew members.
- Act as the main point of contact between the Grinder team and other departments or management to ensure smooth project execution.
- Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, including lubrication, fueling, and basic repairs.
- Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions promptly to ensure minimal downtime and safe operation
Job Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years of prior leadership experience preferred.
- Garbage/Recycling experience preferred
- Ability to lift or carry heavy objects as necessary
- Experience with Heavy Equipment
