Our start as a grassroots, small group of committed individuals began in 1986. We have expanded and grown to an increasingly bold and empowered agency that advocates for change while supporting survivors in Orange and Sullivan Counties in NY.

To build an informed, just, and accountable society so all people can experience supportive and safe relationships free from abuse, exploitation, and oppression. We do this through education, prevention, advocacy, and providing comprehensive services, including Shelter, to victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and other types of crime victimization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Prevention Education Advocate coordinates and facilitates primary prevention programming to students in area elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and post-secondary schools focused on empathy, self-esteem, feelings, boundaries, consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and more that aim to prevent violence and abuse before it occurs. When necessary, they will support the provision of direct services to victims/survivors around needs arising from, but not limited to, interpersonal violence, human trafficking, teen dating violence, sexual violence, and other types of crime victimization.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING ALONG

A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field or equivalent work experience in providing Direct Crisis Counseling and Advocacy Services.

Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs and have experience with client management software

Valid Driver's License, Auto Insurance, and reliable transportation to travel between the agency's office sites and other locations throughout the service region.

Physical demands include but are not limited to long periods of sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds, and navigating stairs.

Experience working with diverse populations and seeking an understanding of cultural differences.

Understand and work from a feminist philosophy of empowerment and support the agency's mission.

Display commitment to ending violence against humans and a commitment to social change through active participation in working towards ending racism, classism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, ableism, and all forms of oppression; demonstrate a willingness to gain an understanding of issues of oppression, battering, and sexual assault.

POSITION COMPENSATION, CLASS, AND SCHEDULE

Reports To: Prevention, Education, and Training Program Manager

Classification/Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt

Pay Rate: Hourly Rate Range $22.59- $24.03

Primary Worksite: Family Justice Center - Newburgh, NY

Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility around evenings, weekends, and holidays; primarily business hours with some evening shifts required; one holiday per year required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Education, Training & Facilitation Program Responsibilities

Collaborate with the other members of the Education Team and other agency program teams to ensure that all educational materials reflect Fearless! values and materials are informed by our in-house practices to ensure alignment with our external messaging strategy.

Facilitate primary prevention programming to students in area elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and post-secondary schools focused on empathy, self-esteem, feelings, boundaries, consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, etc.

Conduct training for educators, administrators, and staff in Orange and Sullivan School and Higher Education systems focused on improving systemic response to teen dating violence and sexual abuse.

Deliver training and education to underserved and marginalized populations

As needed, assist in training staff, interns, and volunteers during Advocate Training sessions.

Collaborate with the Prevention and Education team and other departments to plan, participate, and host community outreach and awareness events.

Distribute brochures, safety posters, and other materials throughout the service region.

Work with the Prevention and Community Education team to create content for social media and other branded promotional materials.

Contact schools, higher education, and youth-serving organizations to promote prevention education and awareness activities

Develop, design, and maintain training presentations and materials as needed.

Ensure evaluation forms are completed and summarized after presentations.

Maintain prevention/education data and service records.

As needed, represent the agency at network events, meetings, task forces, and outreach events.

Safety & Hygiene

Actively engaging in basic housekeeping, maintenance, organization of donations, and other assigned tasks.

Proactively monitor the overall condition of the agency and ensure the maintenance of a clean, welcoming environment for individuals accessing services.

Attend to overall facility maintenance and repairs.

Adhere to and uphold agency policies and protocols related to clients' physical safety and the safety of electronic client service records.

Advocacy and Crisis Response Responsibilities

Provide culturally-informed, trauma-responsive crisis intervention and nonjudgmental, supportive hotline counseling, assessments, shelter screenings, and intake interviews for hotline callers and walk-in clients at the Family Justice Center and other locations within the community.

Provide accompaniment and systems guidance within courts, probation, police agencies, hospitals, and other social services agencies and includes assistance in preparing court documents and accessing support and services through other agencies.

Assist clients in exploring options regarding the legal system, housing, economic/financial, safety planning risk assessment, etc.

Provide clients with information regarding the NYS Office of Victims Services (OVS), assist with filing applications for OVS compensation, and serve as a liaison between clients and OVS.

Provide on-call advocacy outside of traditional business hours, as scheduled.

As appropriate, engage in ongoing learning and development by proactively participating in webinars, in-service, and external training.

Administrative & Agency Responsibilities

Engage in supervision with the program supervisor and Director to ensure effective performance and optimal client impact.

Support program-specific, agency-wide meetings, training, awareness month activities, and events.

Manage administrative tasks, scheduling, and correspondence for outreach appointments.

Adhere to agency policies and protocols related to the security of electronic client service records.

Maintain the confidentiality of clients, staff, volunteers, and agency information.

Maintain the highest levels of accuracy in recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring that all client records and documentation of work activities are complete and up-to-date and submitted to the supervisor, as directed.

Work closely and collaboratively with agency staff within the Family Justice Center, residential settings, community partners, and collocated office spaces to support the organization's mission.

Ensure timely response and follow-up to email communication and voicemail messages.

Staff members are encouraged to be flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of duties, including other duties as assigned by immediate and other supervisors.
