Summary
The Air Traffic Organization (ATO) has 35,000 controllers, technicians, engineers, and support personnel whose daily efforts keep aircraft safe, separated, and on time. Air Traffic Services provides safe, secure, and efficient management for the National Airspace System and international airspace assigned to U.S. control. We are responsible for more than 5 million square miles of airspace in the U.S. and more than 24 million square miles over oceans.

The Director, Air Traffic Operations—Central Service Area (CSA) provides advice, guidance, and oversight for managing air traffic operations within the CSA. The Director also oversees the development of programs and standards associated with air traffic program areas, such as safety, program operations, operations support, finance, and administration.
The CSA Director has direct line authority over approximately 7,200 employees covering eight (8) districts, including 12 senior managers responsible for providing effective and efficient air traffic operational management. The Director also administers a $4.8M budget.

As a basic requirement for entry into the FAA Executive System, you must clearly articulate and describe within your five (5) page resume evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive-level management capability; and that is directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Leadership and Technical Requirements listed below.

Principal Responsibilities
- Directs air traffic services, air control flight assistance, and aeronautical communications systems and facilities for a specific service area by exercising line authority over subordinate FAA terminal and en route facilities and operational authority over Federal Contract Towers.
- Makes strategic decisions regarding the management of the service area by applying aviation industry trends and experience with NextGen technologies.
- Oversees the implementation of all national policies, procedures, and practices that apply to air traffic operations within the assigned service area.
- Participates in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and emergencies involving air traffic field facilities. Engages with ATO and Regional Flight Standards Division representatives to ensure adequate investigation of air traffic control operations and aircraft accidents, assuring corrective action as appropriate.
- Represents and defends the Department of Transportation's and FAA's position before stakeholders concerning air traffic issues and resolves significant issues within the service area.
