SALARY LEVEL
Pay level for this position:
- GS 7–12: $55,705.00–$128,460.00
Salary is commensurate with base, locality, and availability pay.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Review FBI communications to identify and evaluate the intelligence information therein.
- Prepare and disseminate intelligence information while protecting sources and investigations through correct document classification and controls.
- Communicate with various internal and external law enforcement and Intelligence Community (IC) members to gain a better understanding of sources, operations, missions, and requirements.
- Conduct basic analysis to include collation of raw, primary, and secondary data derived from various sources such as automated database systems, operational intelligence reports, miscellaneous communications, case files, internal and external automation systems, and other sources.
- Participate in interagency committees and meetings as representatives.
- Evaluate incoming reports and information, and performs interpretations and projections under the guidance of senior analysts.
- Prepare basic to complex descriptive and current reportorial intelligence reports to higher-level analysts and superiors in their assigned area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, executive orders, and directives promulgated by the Congress, Attorney General, and the Director of the FBI, to achieve goals and objectives.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
GS-7: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Assist in the preparation of reports.
- Utilize databases to further research.
GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
In addition to the above:
- Research, analyze and assemble pertinent facts into finished reports.
- Utilize computer systems to receive and provide information using database/sources.
- Apply collection methods and techniques/skills relevant to data collection/research.
- Manipulate and exploit data systems to gather information, analyze, and report findings.
GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

- Conduct proactive analytical reviews of data to identify patterns.
- Analyze information and make decisions regarding its value and worth to a case.
- Participate in committees and meetings as representatives of an organization or functional unit.
- Provide briefings, intelligence reports, and/or recommendations to management or higher-level staff.
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
In addition to the above:
- Guide investigative, programmatic, and policy decisions by the intelligence, policy, and law enforcement communities.
- Manage the collection and dissemination of intelligence information from investigations, sources and contacts to the intelligence, policy, and law enforcement communities
- Perform liaison duties with other US and foreign government agencies on a wide variety of topics
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
- Must be willing to travel as required.
- Must meet the FBI’s Employment Eligibility requirements.
- Must complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 annually.
- Must complete form FD-877, Request for Access to (SCI).
- Must successfully pass a series of assessments, known as the IA Selection Process (IASP).
- Must successfully complete the 12-week Intelligence Basic Field Training Course (BFTC) at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. This is a full-time-in-residence program.
- Must sign a mobility service agreement indicating your willingness to relocate to any field office, based on the needs of the FBI. Applicants will receive some moving expenses based on your new office assignment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
- Candidates must have a bachelor’s or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university.
Education may be substituted for specialized experience (SE) as follows:
- GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 2.9 or higher as recorded on an official transcript or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.
- GS-9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree (or LLB or JD, if related).
- GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLM, if related.
- GS-12 and above: Education may not be substituted for SE at this grade level.
All degrees must be verified by submitting college transcripts.
