Section: Director's Operations and Strategy Section

Office: Office of the Executive Secretariat

Location: Washington, DC

Working Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible)

Salary: GS-12 $99,200.00-$128,956.00

GS-13 $117,962.00-$153,354.00

Full Performance Level: GS-13

Number of Positions Available: 1

Duration: Full Time/Permanent

Additional selections may be made from this announcement to fill positions within the same division when the position includes substantially the same duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the FBI is to protect the American People and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Major Duties:

  • Serve as expert proofreader for all of the Director’s correspondence.
  • Provide specialized and authoritative guidance on any written material requested for the Director.
  • Produce complex written correspondence utilizing exceptional editing abilities to formulate a professional product.
  • Communicate with both internal and external parties to verify information, clarify text, obtain support documentation, and coordinate delivery of finished product.
  • Review current correspondence/certificate templates to look for areas needing improvement.

Your resume and supporting documentation will be used to determine whether you meet the job qualifications listed in this announcement and will be compared to your responses to the online assessment questionnaire. Your application will then be placed in one of three categories: Most Competitive, Competitive, or Least Competitive. Names of candidates in the Most Competitive category will be sent to the hiring official for employment consideration. Veterans’ preference will be applied.

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience gathering, developing, and checking the accuracy of information using a variety of internal and external sources.
  • Experience interpreting the results of highly complicated, potentially controversial, and important policies.
  • Experience communicating, planning, organizing, and creating communications and collateral products for specific initiatives.

GS-13: In addition to the above, applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience applying editorial language and style theories and practices, in order to write and/or edit articles/documents to conform to accepted standards in language, style, and publishing methods.
  • Experience creating content that effectively conveys complex information to audiences with diverse levels of understanding.
  • Experience identifying audiences, determining the most effective media, and developing written materials, as well as evaluating the impact and effectiveness of these materials.

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.

Desired Skills are:

  • Knowledge of writing principles including plagiarism, authorship, and basic copyright rules.
