Reports To : Manager, Financial Reporting LOCATION : Reston / Hybrid
SUMMARY OF POSITION :
The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant will work closely with the Manager, Financial Reporting as well as the Senior Managers of Financial Reporting, primarily to assist in the preparation of the annual and quarterly combined financial reports (CFRs). The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant will be responsible for keeping current on SEC / U.S. GAAP and best practice industry financial reporting disclosures. This person will perform technical research and analysis regarding accounting and financial reporting questions received from the Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks). The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant will help to ensure that there is a strong financial reporting control environment, including spreadsheet controls and records management. Working with the FHLBanks accounting managers / controller ’s group, this person will be responsible for providing customer service to the FHLBanks’ personnel as needed. The person in this role may also periodically oversee other financial reporting staff, as assigned.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare supporting documentation for assigned sections of the annual and quarterly CFRs, including primary preparation responsibilities of core financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A disclosuresUtilize the Financial Reporting System (FRS) and the OF-Hub website to gather information for disclosure in the annual and quarterly CFRs, ensuring that the information gathered meets current SEC / U.S GAAP and best practice industry financial reporting disclosure requirementsUpdate Excel files and / or Workiva using FRS data submissions and Excel template(s) provided by the FHLBanks to calculate combined disclosures for the quarterly and annual CFRsTrack and maintain FRS / Excel template(s) submissions made by the FHLBanks to ensure version control so that the most current data are used for the preparation of the combined totalsReview financial statement and disclosure information submitted by the FHLBanks (primarily from FRS and / or Excel templates) and follow up with the appropriate FHLBank personnel for any unusual amounts or discrepancies between the financial statements and disclosure dataWork to ensure that the pre-established and agreed-upon timeline for the distribution of the combining statements, draft report and publication of the quarterly and annual financial reports are metWork with the external auditors by providing assistance with their work on the annual audit and quarterly financial statement reviewPerform technical research and analysis regarding accounting and financial reporting questions received from the FHLBanks and provide assistance on accounting research projects with the Accounting Policy group and other special projects, as neededAssist with administration / development of FRS, Workiva / Wdesk, the OF-Hub, or other department improvements, as necessaryAssist as needed in the department’s participation in the various Controller’s group subcommitteesProvide customer service to the FHLBanks’ personnel, as neededSupport the OF’s diversity and inclusion strategy by following policies and procedures that ensure equal opportunities for employees and diverse business partnersPerform other job duties as assignedPRINCIPAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or universityA minimum of five years relevant work experienceDesignation as a Certified Public Accountant (or CPA candidate) preferredPublic accounting experience and / or relevant SEC experience required; banking / mortgage banking experience preferredTechnical and research skills, including knowledge of U.S. GAAP, accounting and financial reporting issues, and SEC rules and regulationsProficiency with Excel, Adobe, and Wdesk (by Workiva)The ability to initiate and complete work assignments effectively and in a timely manner, with minimal supervisionDemonstrated problem solving skillsThe ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writingAbility to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of performanceSelf-motivated, customer service oriented, and a strong desire to learnAbility to influence various FHLBank accounting personnel to reach consensus on various accounting policy and disclosure topicsProof of eligibility to work in the United StatesEQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
