Join a team with a strong focus on safety. This position will champion a culture of safety and employee wellbeing. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, this position trains, coaches and mentors’ leaders and team mates to ensure a safe and positive work environment. This position will plan, direct, and implement organization safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through location supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Leadership
- Collaborate with the leadership team to prioritize and enhance employee wellbeing and promote a safe work culture.
- Champion safety culture and engage with location managers and employees to incorporate into daily work behaviors.
- Submit “Monthly Scorecard” to CEO and VP, including First Report of injuries, Accidents-Incidents, Near Miss Reports, any type of inspections conducted by an outside source for the month.
Safety Program Management
- Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Tracks and evaluates data and trends of first reports of injury, near misses and accident and incidents. Identifies root causes and identifies improvements to improve and grow.
- Works with Insurance/compliance provider with policy renewal, trends, claim, training evaluation.
- Evaluate and implement the Safety Awards Program.
- Oversee the Safety Committee.
Compliance and Recordkeeping
- Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Collaborate with Insurance provider Peer Group and ACSDMN (Ag Cooperative Safety Directors Association).
- Keep current certificates of liability insurance for rental properties, operators of propane cylinder-filling units, contractors, and resort owners we supply with propane.
- Oversees completion of vehicle and equipment manufacturer recalls.
- Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Represents the cooperative upon Federal and State OSHA, DOT, and Homeland Security inspections.
- Maintains safety files and records.
Training and Development
- Plans and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
- In conjunction with Business and HR updates, Plans and delivers engaging annual employee Right To Know sessions.
- Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Proctor of needed CETP (Propane) certification tests.
- Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
Incident and Response Management
- Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and collaborates with HR and managers to gather information.
- Identifies root causes of injury, near misses, accidents and incidents and coaches’ employees to improve and grow.
- Prepares appropriate process improvements and/or disciplinary documents for VP, division manager and manager.
- Collaborates with HR and appropriate team members maintaining a high level of confidentiality as applicable.
- Seasonal help in the agronomy division and other duties as assigned when needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of experience in safety management, or occupational health management.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety compliance, and risk assessment practices.
- Proven experience developing and implementing workplace safety programs and systems.
- Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and training programs.
- Microsoft Tools & Online Systems: Proficiency in tracking/safety compliance software and reporting tools.
- Proven track record building relationships, engaging employees and growing a culture of safety.
- Strong organizational and presentation skills. Training content development is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in safety leadership roles.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or other relevant safety certifications are a plus.
- Experience with behavior-based safety (BBS) programs and ergonomic assessments.
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation processes and claims management.
- Experience leading safety initiatives in a multi-site agriculture environment.
- Experience working within a Captive Insurance group.

The actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills, and certifications.

Salary : $65,000 - $90,000
