The Director, Government Relations and Political Advocacy plays a key role within the Federation of American Hospitals' (FAH) Public Affairs team, responsible for implementing FAH's advocacy agenda and managing the organization’s Political Action Committee (FedPAC). This role involves high-level engagement with Republican Members of Congress, legislative staff, and other policymakers to advance the policy priorities of FAH’s member hospitals. The Director plays a pivotal role in executing on FAH’s advocacy strategy and fostering grassroots political engagement.

The position requires collaboration with senior executives and cross-functional teams—including government affairs, communications, legal, policy, and operations—in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Government Relations :

  • Develop, strengthen, and manage strategic relationships with Republican Members of Congress, senior legislative staff, and the White House.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of advocacy strategies to advance FAH’s federal policy objectives.
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate legislative and regulatory developments that impact the organization and its members.
  • Represent FAH at meetings with policymakers, coalitions, and industry stakeholders.
  • Draft and oversee the creation of advocacy materials, including letters to Congress, statements for the record, briefing memos, and presentations.

Political Action Committee (PAC) Management :

  • Direct the administration of FedPAC, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and execute FedPAC fundraising and events, including planning and managing high-profile fundraising FAH-hosted political events.
  • Oversee all compliance reporting, including FEC filings, LD-2 and LD-203 reports, and other regulatory disclosures under the direction of the General Counsel.
  • Manage internal FedPAC financial operations, including budgeting, reconciliation, disbursements, and receipts.
  • Lead the annual FedPAC solicitation process and maintain the PAC database.
  • Cultivate relationships with external partners and political stakeholders to enhance PAC engagement.
  • Grassroots Advocacy :

  • Oversee and expand the Federation’s “Hometown Hospital Initiative,” connecting lawmakers and their staff with member hospital facilities.
  • Coordinate and execute hospital tours for Members of Congress and legislative staff, working closely with member hospitals to showcase their contributions and challenges.
  • Collaborate with FAH External Affairs colleagues to develop and implement strategies to amplify grassroots advocacy efforts in support of FAH’s policy goals.
  • Experience and Qualifications :

  • 5-7 years of experience in government relations, political advocacy, or a related role within a Congressional office, trade association, political campaign, or health care organization.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with Republican policymakers, legislative staff, and coalition partners.
  • In-depth understanding of federal legislative and political processes.
  • Experience leading political advocacy initiatives and managing Political Action Committees (PACs) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic advocacy campaigns.
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive policy documents and advocacy materials.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Compensation :

    Salary Range :  $90,000-$150,000

    FAH offers comprehensive health insurance coverage to eligible employees.

    Work Location :

    The Director position is hybrid, based at FAH’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. The role requires in-office presence Monday through Thursday, with an optional remote day on Fridays. FAH also offers 15 additional “work from anywhere” days annually.

    Salary : $90,000 - $150,000
