About the Job
We are seeking a qualified Motor Vehicle Specialist to join our team at FedEx Freight. As a critical member of our operations team, you will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently between locations.
Job Duties
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, to transport freight between Service Centers and customers
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections on equipment to ensure safe operation
- Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractors and/or trailers
- Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
- Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies
- Verify and complete required documentation and reports
- Comply with hazardous materials regulations and procedures
- Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain required documentation
- Communicate with dispatchers and customers to coordinate pick-ups and deliveries
- Provide excellent customer service and solicit additional business opportunities
Essential Requirements
- Hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple endorsements
- Have one year of experience within the past three years or completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under Section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
- Ability to count and perform basic math calculations
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
- Sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of the truck
