What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mgr-District Fleet Maintenance position at FedEx Freight?
This position can be domiciled at any of the 4 service center locations that has a fleet maintenance shop.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Maintain accountability for fleet maintenance personnel, activities and equipment readiness within an assigned Operations district. Support and educate service center managers at non-shop locations on fleet maintenance procedures and compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Lead, educate and develop fleet maintenance managers and supervisors; build a strong bench for future leadership positions
2. Oversee all fleet maintenance activities, goals and compliance efforts in assigned territory
3. Accountable for district fleet maintenance goals, established quotas, shop budget and equipment repairs
4. Monitor and analyze all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies
5. Collaborate with Operations leadership to ensure equipment is maintained and equipment-related needs are met
6. Support shop leadership in determining vendor needs and obtaining required assets and training to achieve business objectives
7. Perform scheduled shop and equipment inspections ensuring fleet maintenance standards are achieved; review inspection discrepancy issues and formulate action plan to resolve issues
8. Analyze safety initiatives; develop strategies to improve employee safety; ensure compliance with all Federal and/or state requirements
9. Lead quality efforts and special projects with district and/or company significance, as needed
10. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
11. Perform other duties as required

- Two years of college or equivalent work experience plus five (5) years’ fleet maintenance-related experience, including two (2) years’ supervisory/management experience
- Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, including employee roles and responsibilities, machines/tools, methods, materials and environments
- LTL experience, including familiarity with service center operations, preferred
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Outside vendor management experience, preferred
- Proven leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Must be organized and possess the ability to effectively multi-task
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to track expenditures for budget review and project future needs of the assigned territory
- Experience using Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet
- Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations; shop environment regulations; Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Requirements
- Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job
- Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise
- Exposure to varied weather conditions
- Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases or other irritants
- Must be able to travel
