Role Description

Job Title: Senior Data Scientist (Big Data)

Location: Austin, TX (Local Candidates Only)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and manage efficient, scalable, and reliable data pipelines to support data integration efforts across the organization.
  • Work with large datasets, and leverage Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Databricks (on Azure) to create data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, data analysts, and other stakeholders to design and implement data integration workflows.
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models, advanced analytics algorithms, and predictive models using Big Data tools and frameworks.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines using Python and SQL, ensuring that data flows seamlessly from source to destination.
  • Ensure high data quality by conducting thorough testing, validation, and troubleshooting of pipelines and algorithms.
  • Conduct complex data analysis and translate insights into actionable business decisions.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in Big Data technologies and machine learning frameworks.
  • Optimize performance of data systems and workflows for improved efficiency and scalability.
  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve business problems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in Data Science, with a strong focus on Big Data technologies and data pipeline management.
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and managing data pipelines to integrate large datasets across multiple platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with experience in querying large datasets and optimizing database performance.
  • Experience with Databricks on Azure to develop data solutions and manage data pipelines.
  • In-depth understanding of Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and distributed storage systems.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, particularly Azure, and using cloud-based data services.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or PyTorch.
  • Familiarity with data orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) for managing and scheduling data workflows.
  • Experience with real-time data processing and streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices for managing large-scale data systems.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
