Position Summary

Schedule : 2nd Shift, Mon - Fri, 2 : 30PM - 11 : 00PM.

2nd shift receives additional $1 shift differential pay per hour already included in the listed pay rate.

This role plays a crucial part in our large-scale coffee production by assisting in the daily execution of all industrial coffee processing, brewing and transferring operations, cleaning all related equipment / spaces and contributing as a member of the brewing team. In order to help ensure all aspects of this position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews.

An ideal applicant will be highly skilled, enthusiastic about coffee, and enjoy working with a variety of individuals who share similar values and goals.

General Duties / Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning about coffee production, actively participating in process improvement initiatives
  • Monitor the consistency of coffee production and identifying and reporting any inconsistencies to supervisor
  • Safely and efficiently load and unload coffee beans into the large coffee system
  • Fill tanks with water for future coffee production
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment :
  • Advocate a safe working environment by adhering to all PPE requirements and policies, and reporting incidents and near misses to assigned supervisor
  • Understand all Clean in Place procedures
  • Daily routine, and regular deep cleaning and sanitization of coffee system, required tanks, pumps and filtration systems and equipment, floors, drains and other systems
  • Organization and cleaning of all tools and equipment
  • Annual chemical training, proper cleaning chemical usage and proper chemical titrations
  • Conformation of coffee production equipment cleanliness thru swabbing, titration or other standard tests
  • Follow all SOPs and work instructions
  • Assist in brainstorming improvements to the large-scale coffee production process
  • Abide by GMP / SQF and HACCP standards
  • Record and enter data related to coffee production output, scraping, and cleaning procedures into all appropriate spreadsheets, checklists or documents
  • Changeover Filtration pads and socks
  • Assist in the transfer base product through appropriate filtration to appropriate tank
  • Assist with other brewing / flavoring duties for other fermented non-coffee products as needed
  • Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities

  • Follow GMP policy when in the production facility and encourage your team to do the same
  • Understand our SQF policies relating to pest control, visitors, allergen management, and cleaning and sanitation
  • Demonstrate awareness of Management's Commitment to SQF and work towards Food Safety and Quality and help the company meet this commitment
  • Report any problem that involves food quality and safety to the Quality Assurance Manager so that the CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal of continuous improvement of food quality and safety
  • Required Skills / Abilities

  • Forklift and pallet jack experience preferred
  • Accurate record-keeping skills and proficiency with spreadsheets / data entry
  • Genuine interest in coffee and a desire to learn and contribute to the production process
  • Able to reprioritize quickly in an ever changing fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of food safety standards
  • Safety-first mindset
  • Must be a team player that actively contributes to a positive work environment
  • Extended shifts, overtime, and weekends may be needed based on business needs
  • Flexibility in work hours is necessary to meet operational demands
  • Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with coffee or in a food manufacturing environment preferred
  • Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • 30 minute unpaid lunch break; two 15 minute paid breaks
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
  • Ability to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, shovel, twist, climb steps, and walk on uneven surfaces regularly
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 65 pounds repeatedly throughout shift
  • Ability to work in a crowded, noisy manufacturing environment, and be able to safely navigate wet work areas and extremes in temperatures
