Overview
FedWriters is seeking a highly skilled Scientist/Engineer Level IV specializing in mass spectrometry algorithms and software development to support the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Mass Spectrometry Data Center. The successful candidate will develop and modify algorithms for quality control of spectra in library databases, improve molecular fragmentation prediction capabilities, and enhance existing NIST MS Search software.

Work Schedule and Location:
On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at NIST Headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD.
Responsibilities
- Develop new algorithms for quality control and filtering of spectra in the NIST MS Search program
- Create algorithms for quality control and clustering of peptide, glycopeptide, and metabolite mass spectra
- Refine and improve existing algorithms for measuring accuracy of peptide and metabolite spectra
- Modify algorithms for improving the performance of consensus spectra production
- Enhance the NIST MS Search program user interface to include full chromatographic run displays
- Integrate NIST-developed AMDIS DLL library capabilities into NIST MS Search programs
- Prepare comprehensive documentation for all developed algorithms
- Provide regular status updates on work progress and algorithm development
Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- Extensive experience in mass spectrometry software development
- Strong programming skills in C/C
- Experience with library database creation and maintenance
- Knowledge of peptide, glycopeptide, and metabolite spectra analysis
- Familiarity with NIST MS Search software and MS Archive data
- Experience with molecular fragmentation algorithms
- Background in data quality control and clustering techniques
