We are currently in search of a Media Relations Manager to join our Marketing & Creative team!  The Media Relations Manager will amplify awareness of our mission to end childhood hunger through proactive media engagement and relationship building. This role will shape Feed the Children's public image by working to grow our voice and raise the profile of our programs and mission – in the US and international media.  The Media Relations Manager will develop communication strategies to promote brand awareness, support Feed the Children's core organizational objectives, programs, and fundraising goals, and drive engagement with target audiences. This position will identify unique opportunities for Feed the Children media coverage aligned with our strategic priorities to secure quality earned placements and elevate the voices of Feed the Children's thought leaders.  This role will also provide focused media relations support to Feed the Children's Corporate Partnership team, regional Community Partners, and Distribution Centers to highlight our programs and partnerships around the world.

NOTE:  All qualified candidates will be considered nationwide.  If the selected candidate resides in the Oklahoma City, OK area, they will work a hybrid schedule from our corporate office.  A candidate selected outside of the Oklahoma City, OK area will be a remote employee. 

Salary range:  $65,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with experience)

Job Requirements:

Education

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations preferred.  High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

4 years of media relations/communications/public relations/journalism experience at a manager level or above at an agency or in-house required.

Proven experience in pitching media stories nationally, regionally, and locally required.

Experience publishing media content via media monitoring platforms such as Onclusive, Critical Mention or PR Newswire required.

Exceptional editing and writing skills required.

Knowledge of key U.S. and international media outlets preferred.

Established relationships with media contacts preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and cross-departmentally in a fast-paced environment required.

Experience working with online project management software such as Monday.com preferred.

Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams required.

Essential Functions:

Media Relations Management

Increase public awareness of Feed the Children by promoting its mission to end childhood hunger across U.S. and global media.

Develop and implement media strategies in conjunction with the Director of Communications & PR to promote Feed the Children's domestic and international programs and mission, targeting key audiences and emphasizing the organization's unique impact.

Cultivate and maintain relationships with key editors, journalists, and media outlets to enhance awareness of childhood hunger and relevant issues.

Manage communication and media relations projects from conception through implementation to reporting, providing both management and hands-on involvement in all phases.

Proactively pitch stories and manage interviews, and media inquiries to secure positive coverage.

Support media relations efforts around Feed the Children’s disaster relief responses, coordinating with Feed the Children’s International and Regional teams to help ensure timely outreach and outcomes.

Secure opportunities for journalists to visit Feed the Children program sites.

Organize and manage press briefings.

Messaging and Content Development

Collaborate with senior leadership to develop, draft, edit, and disseminate press releases and statements.

Contribute strategic insight into the corporate social media and marketing plans as it relates to communications and media relations initiatives.

Manage the communications and media relations content deliverables to ensure brand message is consistent, timely and relevant.

Spokesperson Management

Identify and support spokespeople, including senior leadership, for media interviews and speaking engagements.

Develop talking points, briefing packets, and manage media training/ workshops.

Thought Leadership

Track thought leadership opportunities, including conferences and speaking engagements.

Ideate, write, edit, pitch, and promote executive thought leadership articles.

Build positive relationships with international PR/communications regional staff.

Secure opportunities for organizational and leadership recognition, including awards.

Crisis Communications

Manage crisis communications and provide timely responses to critical situations.

Support media relations during humanitarian crises and disaster events, including developing talking points, identifying media opportunities, and tracking coverage.

Community Partner/Corporate Partner Relations

Collaborate to review and share communication strategies and press materials to support community events & partner activations to ensure successful media outcomes.

Media Monitoring & Analysis

Monitor and analyze daily published media content via our media monitoring platform Onclusive (Critical Mention).

Track and share monthly media highlight reports.

Model the type and level of behavior, professionalism and leadership that is in accordance with the values of the organization.

Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws; maintain accountability standards.

Performs other related duties as required.

Travel: The travel requirements for this position are estimated to be up to 10% of the work time.
