What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Manager position at Feeding America West Michigan?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Identify and assess the appropriateness of potential grant opportunities for improving food systems, food security, and/or increasing food distribution. Lead the proposal preparation process by drafting, revising, and editing documents to be submitted to foundations, corporations, and organizations, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and correspondence. Able to balance the big picture with practical attention to detail. Participate in the development team to assist with other fundraising opportunities. Act as liaison to other food bank teams to ensure continuity, accuracy, and adherence to key processes related to grant management and reporting. Committed to the mission of the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Research, identify, develop, and respond to public and private grant opportunities
- Prepare and submit letters, proposals, grant applications, and reports in a timely fashion
- Persuasively communicate the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
- Construct budgets for grant proposals using basic math skills
- Track grants and report deadlines utilizing Microsoft Access, Google Drive, and Trello
- Ensure prompt acknowledgment of foundation gifts
- Prioritize projects to move multiple projects on time, meet deadlines, and manage supplemental material required for proposals.
- Present grant proposals to potential funders, Food Bank staff, and other relevant parties
- Manage the Grant Writer
- Special projects as needed
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Experienced in grant writing and administration
- Adept at staff supervision.
- Skilled in collaboration on team projects and building relationships internal and external to the food bank.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Grammatical wizardry
- Ability to write clearly and informatively
- Ability to work on a copyediting team and “sacrifice darlings”
- Ability to provide and utilize constructive criticism
- Ability to adjust writing style according to the audience
- Passion for research
- Ability to think critically and ask the right questions
- Financial acumen
- Excel and Google Docs experience: Access experience is a plus
- Ability to communicate with co-workers effectively and efficiently
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and manage a flexible schedule
- Humility and willingness to learn and try new things

Educational Requirements
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in public administration, English, business, social sciences, or a related field with demonstrable skills in writing, critical analysis, and leadership.
