The Security Specialist is responsible for providing patrol and access control services to ensure the safety and security of Incident Command Posts, Fire Camps, and surrounding areas. This role involves monitoring restricted areas, responding to incidents, and reporting violations to law enforcement when required. Job locations vary and may include Oregon (near Bend), Idaho, Arizona, and California. The position operates on an on-call basis, requiring candidates to remain ready for immediate deployment. Once called, the schedule involves 21 days on duty, followed by 2 days off, with locations potentially changing per assignment. The job time frame typically spans from May through September.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of designated areas, including equipment staging areas and access roads.
- Control access to restricted zones and verify individual authorizations.
- Respond to incidents such as trespassing, disorderly behavior, or safety violations.
- Report violations, including illegal substances, weapons, or suspected criminal activity, to law enforcement.
- Maintain detailed logs of security events and document incidents with photos or videos when needed.
- Attend daily briefings with the Logistics Coordinator (LSC) or their representative.
- Provide professional assistance and answer public inquiries when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Prohibited Activities:
- Carrying or using firearms or defensive equipment (e.g., pepper spray, handcuffs, batons).
- Restraining, detaining, or apprehending individuals.
- Confiscating prohibited substances or items.
- Patrolling Adults in Custody areas unless explicitly requested.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Current DPSST Private Security Unarmed Professional Certification (required).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles for patrol.
- Security or related experience preferred.
- Strong observational, communication, and reporting skills.
- Professional demeanor and ability to follow security protocols.
