- SUMMARY:
The EHS Specialist works with Environmental Health and Safety Director to plan, direct, and implement Key Cooperative’s environmental health and safety programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment and is responsible for the compliance by Key Cooperative with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies. Areas of specialty for this position, while having a general knowledge company-wide, will focus on compliance monitoring and reporting in all areas of the company. This position would also respond to emergency situations when they arise.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Additional duties as needed and assigned.
· Plans and implements procedures, programs, and files regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agencies.
· Assists with the record keeping, and manuals for these programs (including but not limited to): OSHA, DOT, Iowa DNR, Iowa Dept. of Agriculture & Land Stewardship, FDA, DHS, Local Emergency Planning Coordinators, and Iowa Department of Revenue.
· Works with EHS Director for Key Cooperative promotion of safety in our community, school, or industry safety groups and programs.
· Assists with annual department goals according to key metrics (ex- lost time accidents) that are measured throughout the organization.
· Participates in Key Cooperative’s goal setting and budget process, in areas of safety and compliance.
· Communicates closely with and takes day to day orders from the EHS director in the day to day work, so EHS goals are reached.
· Plans, implements, and oversees the company safety and maintenance program; coordinates and assists with Key Cooperative’s safety committee

- EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Employee must have working knowledge of manufacturing maintenance. The individual will be responsible for leading maintenance systems, overseeing the continuous improvement of the manufacturing process and executing long term strategic plans. Must be self-motivated and possess well developed leadership skills.
Minimum Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or related field required
- One to three years of related experience preferred
- LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets basic instructions and required documents. Has the ability to respond and communicate complicated instruction and basic directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence accurately.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic mathematics.
- REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
