YOUR IMPACT

The Local Forager/Buyer plays a key role in creating FELFEL’s product offering: a creative, diverse and delicious menu of food and drinks that customers can enjoy all day from their FELFEL fridge.  Through amazing stories, incredible tastes, high quality ingredients and beautiful presentation, you inspire customers with our food and help make FELFEL their first choice for meals, snacks and drinks in the office.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee FELFEL's fresh meals and snack offerings: You create exciting, seasonal and delicious menus that pull from your experience in the local food market, feedback from our customers and input from FELFEL teammates. These menus include a variety of lunch & breakfast meals, unique snacks and drinks.
• Trendsetting: You are passionate about great food.  You monitor food media, track food trends, current events and up-and-coming chefs, locally and nationally.  You are organized and systematically categorize and prioritize trends, ideas, partnership possibilities for FELFEL menu development.
• Product Development: You lead our product development process from ideation to launch, starting with the design of our weekly/monthly/seasonal menus and all the products within these menus. You work with partner chefs and production partners to create freshly prepared dishes from initial product concept to recipe development, testing, tasting, and ultimately production at scale. You also lead the product development process for snack products and beverages from idea/trend to tasting, testing and identifying potential supplier partners. At scale, we expect to introduce 150 new fresh meals plus 100 snacks & drinks per year.
• Culinary partnerships & collaborations: You establish strong, positive partnerships with producers - from brand collaborations, to licensing, white label production and more, you find the best partners for FELFEL. You continuously build our understanding of which producers, (chefs, restaurants, commissary kitchens, farms, snack and beverage companies etc.) may be best suited to be partners for each of our different categories of food and drink.  You are the FELFEL point person in these relationships: you negotiate pricing, onboard new partners, update FELFEL systems with ingredients/recipes/names/label info and help develop storytelling that will go into Sales and Marketing material. 
• Food Safety & Quality: You work with the FELFEL internal Food Safety Team and our food production partners to ensure they meet or exceed our standards for safe food handling practices (often above and beyond local food safety regulations) and consistently produce food that meets our quality standards.
• Represent our FELFEL Values: You lead by example and represent FELFEL values and our brand promise with internal team members and external partners, and ensure these values are reflected in the products that our customers find in their FELFEL fridge each day.

WHO YOU ARE

• You have worked in the culinary industry, manufacturing and/or retail for a minimum of 5 years.
• You have at least 2 years of food buying/procurement/purchasing experience. Preferably within NYC.
• You have experience using Google Suite, MS Suite, Slack, Asana (or similar platform), Hubspot (or similar platform), ERP software and/or other costing, inventory planning, ordering, supply chain software.
• You have a passion for food and local community:  You enjoy eating and experimenting with a diverse range of foods and flavors. You track food trends, have a nuanced understanding of food culture and food and dietary preferences of our target market in NYC as well as the local Tri-State Area. You have a strong grasp of the NYC culinary landscape (restaurants, chefs, producers, purveyors, special food regulations etc.). 
• You have experience in the NY food scene: Culinary education (recipe creation, taste profiles, culinary vocabulary) is preferred, NY Food Handlers and or Serv-Safe Certification is preferred. You have worked in the food & hospitality industry in multiple capacities and bring a Front-of-House customer-centric mindset and an appreciation for the challenges of Back-of-House teams.
• You have P&L, costing and pricing experience: You approach the subject of food with a business mindset to complement your culinary experience.  You consider costs, margins, and how to create efficiencies without sacrificing on quality or taste. You enjoy and excel at working with and negotiating with vendors and partners.
• You are self-motivated, while being a team player at the same time: We are a small but growing team that is in need of a solution-oriented “make-it-happen” kind of person
• Excellent communicator: You possess strong writing and public speaking skills. Ability to speak German, Swiss-German and/or French is a plus.  
• You have a valid Driver License.
• You are authorized to work in the United States. Currently, FELFEL does not provide visa sponsorship. All applicants must be able to provide legal proof of their eligibility to work in the U.S.
