Fellowship Hall, a 123-bed private, not-for-profit specialty hospital offering abstinence based alcohol and drug treatment based on the 12-Step Model of Recovery, located on a serene 120-acre country setting in Greensboro, NC, is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing.
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing the nursing team, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards which includes chart reviews, providing input on resources needed, and fostering a safe, supportive environment for both patients and staff. The ADON also provides direct patient care as needed and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to optimize clinical outcomes.
Work Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Weekend Call Rotation
- Must be able to work evenings, nights, and holidays as needed
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
- Support the DON in managing day-to-day nursing operations, including staff scheduling, resource allocation, chart reviews, and record reviews.
- Provide mentorship to the nursing team, fostering professional development and a culture of continuous improvement through teamwork.
- Act as the DON's representative in their absence, ensuring uninterrupted operations and high-quality care delivery.
Clinical Oversight:
- Ensure nursing practices adhere to evidence-based guidelines, hospital policies and protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor patient outcomes and adjust care plans as necessary to meet individual needs.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinic performance.
- Assist with the oversight of the infection control program
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, DEA, and NCDHS requirements.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and policy reviews to ensure clinic adherence to best practices.
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Patient Care:
- Provide direct nursing care as needed, including medication administration, patient education, crisis intervention, and guest assessments.
- Collaborate with physicians, counselors, and other healthcare providers to deliver holistic care.
Education & Training:
- Coordinate and deliver training programs for nursing staff on topics such as substance use disorders, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), infection control and competence in withdrawal symptoms.
- Ensure nursing staff remain current on certifications and continuing education requirements.
- Ensure new staff are oriented properly and are able to perform all the tasks required.
- Ensure existing staff maintain competencies.
Education & Experience:
- Current, unrestricted RN license in North Carolina BSN preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Experience in substance use disorder treatment, mental health, or related fields is highly preferred.
Minimum Licensure/Certification:
- BLS/FA certification required.
- Advanced certifications in addiction nursing (e.g., CARN) are a plus.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment protocols, including MAT.
Physical Demands/Strength:
- Be able to lift objects at least 25 lbs.
- Be able to sit/stand for prolonged periods.
- Be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination.
- Be able to communicate using the English language.
Environmental Conditions:
- Fast-paced clinical setting with direct patient interaction.
- Requires on-call availability in addition to evening shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays
- Requires dependability and flexibility to meet schedule demands
Aural (Hearing) Demand:
- Be able to hear normal sounds with background noise
- Gloves, face mask, gowns, safety glasses
Working Environment:
- Nursing Station, medication area, exam room, patient rooms, outside for guest activities.
Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills, knowledge of poly-substance abuse to include signs, symptoms and treatment of withdrawal phase, knowledge of symptoms of psychiatric conditions that complicate treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. 12 Step knowledge is a plus.
