Description
Fellowship House is a 72 bed residential treatment facility assisting men and women with alcohol and substance use recovery. The position is a 4 day 10 hour shift role scheduled for Sunday-Wednesday 8AM-6PM. The cook will have the opportunity to assist clients become sober, productive individuals by supporting them with vocational kitchen/food prep skills. The Cook will work directly with the Kitchen Manager and Maintenance Supervisor and participate in:
Cooking and Meal Preparation:
- Prepare and cook nutritious, balanced meals for residents based on their dietary needs and preferences.
- Plan menus, taking into account any special dietary restrictions, preferences, or cultural requirements.
- Ensure the quality and presentation of food meets facility standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, following food safety and hygiene standards.
- Store food properly and manage inventory, ordering supplies as necessary.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation for special events or activities.
Client Support and Interaction:
- Greet residents and provide assistance with their needs or concerns, including redirecting them to appropriate staff when necessary.
- Foster a warm and supportive environment by engaging with residents and addressing their requests or questions.
- Redirect clients to relevant departments or personnel when required, ensuring they feel heard and cared for.
- Assist with communication between kitchen staff and other facility personnel to meet client needs effectively.
- Enforce facility rules and maintain appropriate behavior among residents during meal times, ensuring a respectful and orderly dining environment.
- Manage and control the flow of residents during meal periods to ensure smooth and efficient service, minimizing congestion or disruptions.
- Address any behavioral issues or disruptions in a professional and empathetic manner, following facility guidelines for client discipline.
- Overseeing and training program participants in food prep, handling and safety.
- Coordinating rotating meal times and overseeing chores specific to kitchen detail such as meal setup, and meal cleaning up.
- Kitchen team is comprised of program participants assigned to kitchen duty and the cook on duty.
- High interaction is not limited to immediate supervisor and kitchen lead, but at times with other lead staff.
- High interaction with program participants.
Requirements
High school diploma, or GED
Kitchen or restaurant experience
Experience in menu planning and food preparation in a healthcare facility preferred, but not required
