Program/Division Description

The Children, Youth, Family and Transitional Age Youth (CYFTAY) Division is one of the social services components of Family Service Agency of San Francisco. Felton’s Children, Youth, Family and TAY Division provides comprehensive early care and education, inclusion and early intervention services for children birth through 6 years old, including children with special needs. It also provides outpatient behavioral/ mental health and case management services to children and youth 4-21 years old and their families. Lastly, it also provides comprehensive case management, educational/ vocational, health, nutritional and parenting education services to pregnant and parenting teens up to the age of 24 years old. Job Description

In this role, the Lead Early Interventionist (Lead EI) will support all Early Intervention and inclusion programming across sites. The Lead EI is responsible for providing 20 hours of direct services per week for children at FDC, as part of our EI programming (Large Group, FEAP and Small Groups services as part of our SEEDS program). Services are provided in different settings including classrooms, community as well as occasional home and telehealth services. The Lead EI will additionally provide mentorship and training for the rest of the Early Intervention and Inclusion team, and will support new initiatives and programming for the Early Intervention team. The Lead EI may also provide coaching and consultation to ECE staff on topics related to EII programming. The Lead EI is a crucial member of the EI team who is able to implement all Felton EII programming to fidelity and meet Felton’s high standards of care for children with special needs.Â

The Lead EI is expected to conduct assessments using a variety of different tools and provide individualized instruction and specialized intervention to children with a range of identified needs, including children on the Autism spectrum, at the center and (occasionally) at home. The Lead EI prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities; assesses and monitors child progress using different data collection methods, ensures quality of intervention, maintains confidentiality of children, families, and staff involved in the program, attends and participates in meetings, trainings and conferences as assigned. The Lead EI must be familiar with and willing to learn a range of tools, frameworks, and intervention approaches specific to the field of Early Intervention and Inclusion (e.g. Early Start Denver Model; Assessment, Evaluation and Programming System; Activity-Based Intervention, Hanen Centre programs, Routines-based Intervention, ABA, DIR/Floortime, Teaching Pyramid, Kimochis), and how to implement them to fidelity in the natural environment. The Lead Early Interventionist is expected to demonstrate a family-centered, culturally sensitive and strengths-based approach in working with children with special needs and their families.

The Lead EI will work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary Early Intervention and Inclusion team to coordinate and deliver services to young children (birth to 5) with special needs at the center and in family homes. While working with children at the center, intervention will be delivered in the inclusive classroom environment and the Early Interventionist will be expected to work collaboratively with Early Childhood Educators and other teaching staff in supporting the optimal growth and development of children with special needs in the classroom, with a heavy focus on coaching and capacity-building. When delivering intervention in the home, the Lead Early Interventionist is expected to work collaboratively and in partnership with the child’s caregivers and family members to support the child’s growth and development at home, with a heavy focus on parent coaching and capacity-building.

In addition to providing direct intervention to children, the Lead EI is also expected to perform any related administrative duties pertaining to the families that they work with, such as documenting time in direct intervention, writing progress notes, intervention plans, progress/exit reports, collecting child or teacher data, monitoring and evaluating child progress, and engaging in continuous self-directed learning and training. This Early Interventionist might also be expected to assist in other aspects of program implementation and evaluation as assigned by his or her supervisor.

In conjunction with the Early Intervention Supervisor, the Lead EI will collaborate to provide trainings related to child development and Early Intervention topics to classroom staff and other members of the Early Intervention team.

Specific ResponsibilitiesÂ

  • 20 hours of direct servicesÂ
  • Onboarding and training new EIs with the support of the EI SupervisorÂ
  • Supporting EIs ongoing with intervention plan writing, behavior support implementation, and report writingÂ
  • Assist the EI supervisor with EITA coaching and training as neededÂ
  • Assist the EI Supervisor in providing training and support on general and individualized inclusion strategies for ECE staffÂ
  • Joining EI’s parent consultations occasionally to support with family coaching and strengths-based language
  • Create and provide trainings to the team on new topics as necessaryÂ
  • Help supervise and support interns and student teachersÂ
  • Support EI Supervisor in conducting child observations as requested by teachersÂ
  • Provide session coverage across EII programming as neededÂ
  • Conduct Champion Check-Ins and related support for Teaching Pyramid implementation across sitesÂ
  • Create and facilitate EII-related training for EII staff, ECE staff, and families under the supervision of the EI supervisorÂ
  • Represent Felton’s EII program at special events on site and in the community

Minimum Requirements/QualificationÂ

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, plus minimum 3-year experience working directly with children with special needs and their families using assessment, and other professional skills related to this position. – REQUIRED
  • Bilingual English/Spanish – PREFERRED
  • One year of experience working as an Early Interventionist REQUIRED
  • Computer skills: Excel, Microsoft Word, other programs- REQUIRED
  • Familiar with Community Care Licensing and Title 5, Title 17 Regulations
  • Familiarity with and training in evidence-based intervention approaches, such as the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), routines-based intervention, positive behavior support, ABA, etc. REQUIREDÂ
  • Experience working in an inclusion/early intervention model preferred
  • Commitment to social justice, empowerment of families and support for diversity
  • Knowledge of the child development field as well as dynamics of low-income families
  • Knowledge of San Francisco childcare and family services communities preferred
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural background of the children and families being served
  • Demonstrate ability to create and maintain team effort in the implementation of programs and projects
  • Attention to detail and multitasking abilities
  • Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work independently under broad supervision
  • Ability to be a team player with a welcoming attitude and flexibility
  • Physical agility to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and to bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead, Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist and turn
  • CPR and/or Standard First Aid Certification required.
  • Position subject to Criminal Background Check and Live Scan Fingerprinting through the California Department of Justice

Salary Range: $35-$37 per hour (DOE)
