CMT/Special Inspections Project Manager – Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
We are seeking a CMT/Special Inspections Project Manager or CMT/Special Inspections Assistant Project Manager to lead and oversee construction materials testing (CMT) and special inspections for infrastructure, commercial, and public works projects. This role involves managing field inspections, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards, and coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, technical expertise, and leadership abilities to deliver high-quality inspection and testing services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management & Coordination:
- Oversee and manage CMT and special inspections projects from initiation to completion.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and reporting deliverables.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of inspection reports, test data, and compliance documentation.
- Quality Assurance & Technical Oversight:
- Ensure all field and laboratory testing complies with TxDOT, ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, IBC, FAA, and project specifications.
- Provide technical guidance to inspectors and technicians on testing procedures, field inspections, and documentation.
- Review and interpret test results to confirm conformance with design and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans for nonconforming work.
- Team Leadership & Training:
- Supervise and mentor field inspectors, technicians, and junior engineers.
- Assist in hiring, training, and certifying field personnel in relevant testing and inspection disciplines.
- Promote safety and adherence to company quality control standards.
- Client Relations & Business Development:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and responsiveness.
- Support business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and attending client meetings.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through proactive issue resolution and professional service delivery.
Required Qualifications:
- Education (Required, Not Preferred):
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Master of Special Inspections (MSI) certification or coursework completion.
- Certifications & Licenses:
- ICC certifications in relevant special inspection disciplines (e.g., Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel, Masonry, Soils) or ability to obtain within six months.
- ACI, NICET, TxDOT, or other relevant industry certifications preferred.
- Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in CMT, special inspections, or related construction engineering fields.
- Strong knowledge of materials testing, field inspection protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in the field and travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EIT or PE certification (preferred but not required).
- PE license in the state of operation.
- Advanced ICC certifications in multiple special inspection disciplines.
- Experience managing federally funded projects and knowledge of TxDOT, FAA, or DOT specifications.
- Proficiency in reporting software and construction management tools.
Work Environment & Conditions:
- Field and office-based role with travel to job sites.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, construction environments, and materials testing equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform field testing as needed.
