What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guitar Inspector I position at Fender?
We are searching for a Guitar Inspector to join our team. The Guitar Inspector for Distribution is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle grip, grasp, feel; reach with hands and arms. Incumbent must thoroughly inspect product (Guitars and Amps) each unit requires detailed trouble shooting and quality to identify possible mechanical or cosmetic defects. Employee is required to fully understand product specifications referencing to product criteria to perform necessary adjustments, minor repairs and tune test product to meet specifications. Use of hand tools are required for the job- caliper, file, truss rod wrench, screwdriver, etc.Essential Functions : Place product on workstation for a thorough inspection.Inspect for cosmetic finish flaws, sharp uneven surface, test for sound deficiencies, replace damaged parts, and adjust components to meet product criteria specificationsFile bone nut slots to specifications using correct file sizeUse sandpaper to sand bone nut to a smooth radius finishUse hand tools- screwdriver, filer, caliper, and powered tools to perform necessary minor repairsUse ruler and caliper to capture radius measurementsTune test guitar for playability and intonationAssure all component parts are installed correctly and meet finish criteriaMake necessary adjustments to component parts-bridge / saddle, nut, neck, pickups, etcHand feel product and visually inspect product for any damage scratches that don’t pass criteriaWipe product with cloth and buff / polish guitars that need a smooth shine finishAdditional duties as assigned Qualifications : 1-2 years’ experience and / or training, preferably in production inspection and guitar playing experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalentStrong guitar building, woodworking and finishing skills, in addition to a full understanding of raw material specificationsExcellent product knowledge of all models in current and past productionKnowledge and skills with fret leveling / dressingGuitar playing backgroundStrong verbal and written communication skillsExperience with use of calipers, micrometer, digital multimeter, guitar building hand tools, feeler gauges, soldering equipment, and buffing wheelAbility to adhere to safety procedures, rules, and regulations at all times, and to wear personal protective equipment while on the factory floor, including, without limitation : safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, hair nets, paint suits, mask, respirators, and protective footwear.
