Job Overview

The Director of Early College Programs is responsible for the support, development, and implementation of the Early College Program at Fenway High School. Under the direction of the Head of School, the Director will lead and manage all aspects of the Fenway High Early College Program including program development, partnership management, professional development for faculty, recruitment and advising students, and working with all stakeholders to improve program quality and expand early college. The Director is responsible for cultivating and fostering positive and working relationships between higher education partners, to build rigorous and developmentally appropriate programs and activities that will result in successful and positive program experiences for students, and post-secondary success.

 

Job Responsibilities

The Director of Early College Programs should have the skills and traits needed to carry out the job functions listed below:

 

Manage and Expand Early College Partnerships

  • Primary manager and contact with all Early College Partners
  • Plan and execute all logistics including coordination of schedules, advising, and registration
  • Develop college readiness program
  • Arrange college experiences and exposure activities
  • Work to coordinate all necessary testing and pre-registration activities
  • Collaborate around budget, materials, and necessary programmatic elements
  • Coordinate tutoring and other support services
  • Coordinate and facilitate vertical curriculum alignment work 

 

Lead Student Focused Early College Registration and Support

  • Facilitate and support all registration and scheduling with students
  • Conduct all academic and early college advising
  • Provide necessary student support at all levels including tutoring and social emotional support
  • Provide orientation for students specific to their choice of early college institution
  • Provide regular workshops for 9-11th graders on the benefits and opportunities in Early College
  • Organize tutoring for all Early College students through higher education and community partnerships
  • Organize tutoring schedules for tutors and students
  • Regular progress report monitoring of students 
  • Communicate student progress to families
  • Collaborate with members of the Fenway High School and higher education community to support struggling students
  • Communicate the purpose and mission of Early College at Fenway to students and families
  • Collect and reflect 2-3 times per year on early college data including academic achievement, enrollment, and college matriculation and persistence data
  • Manage all grants, applications, and data as it relates to Early College, district, and state accountability 

 

Requirements

The candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of education, college advising and admission, school guidance counseling, or related field in a school setting
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in developing, managing, and scaling up Early College Programs
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience with grant management, grant reporting, budgetary development, and project management and implementation.
  • Strong skills in presentation, designing, planning, implementing, and monitoring projects/programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple early college partners
  • Skillful relationship builder with young people, educators, and caregivers
  • Belief that all students are capable of extraordinary things and it is our job to create the conditions for students to be successful
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population or community and strong cross-cultural skills
  • Ability to work with youth and deliver services in an individual, small group, and large group setting
  • Ability to use technology platforms for data analysis, scheduling, and communications
  • Fierce commitment to anti-racism
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred

Fenway High School is located at 67 Alleghany Street in Boston's Mission Hill, a short walk from the MBTA Orange Line. Parking available as well.

 

Terms of Employment

Terms: Managerial Tier D. This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

 

Comprehensive salary, health and dental benefits.

 

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223-day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or head of school of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
