DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The FSM Strategy & Portfolio Operations team operates across all business units within Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and its portfolio companies, with a particular focus on strategic planning, optimizing the performance of existing businesses, and supporting the identification and execution of high-impact growth initiatives externally and within the existing FSG portfolio of properties. This includes working as a collaborative partner to FSG executives on a blend of organic and inorganic strategies such as process improvements, operational efficiency enhancements, M&A opportunities, real estate matters, and strategic partnerships.
 
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Fenway Sports Management is seeking a Director of Strategy & Portfolio Operations to join its team, focusing on the strategic planning and operational optimization needs of FSG and its portfolio companies. This role will serve as a form of an internal strategy and operations consultant and partner to various departments, working closely with FSG leadership and the teams across its portfolio of properties to drive operational efficiency, strategic alignment, and sustainable growth.
 
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, results-driven leader with deep experience in corporate strategy, operations, and organizational optimization. The candidate will also have a proven ability to drive change and execute plans effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and complex environment. The role requires a strong track record of assessing and executing on key business initiatives, building and cultivating relationships and reliably participating as a collaborative partner on strategic decisions across a global organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Corporate Strategy & Operational Optimization
  • Collaborate with leadership teams across FSG’s portfolio of properties to identify and prioritize high-impact strategic initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Assist in the development of corporate strategies for existing FSG businesses, focusing on operational optimization, maximizing revenue generation, and increasing business reach.
  • Identify and implement innovative strategies that streamline operations, enhance existing processes, and elevate overall performance across the portfolio.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at aligning operational practices across the portfolio to create consistency and operational synergies.
  • Support documentation and communication of key initiatives, operational improvements, and strategic priorities through presentations, written reports, and other formats tailored to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Portfolio Optimization & Internal Consulting
  • Develop understanding of portfolio companies and investments to explore the creation of a monitoring framework to measure success against investment decision-making and monitoring of key KPis.
  • Identify potential opportunities to implement internal strategy consulting frameworks to improve processes, optimize workflows, and provide ongoing operational support to portfolio companies, including with respect to major commercial agreements for facilities management, concessions, retail, and other key areas of the consolidated enterprise.
  • Support cross-functional projects, ensuring successful execution and alignment with corporate goals.
  • Assess the opportunity to create, track, and report on business plans, KPIs, and success metrics to institutionalize strategic priorities and measure progress on a consolidated basis in partnership with various departments, including Finance and Legal.
  • Execution & Integration of Growth Initiatives
  • Support the execution and integration of strategic growth initiatives, including M&A, partnerships, and investment opportunities.
  • Support the M&A process by supporting key tasks such as operational and legal due diligence, deal structuring, and negotiation processes.
  • Evaluate and optimize operational processes across real estate and other strategic opportunities to align with FSG’s overall growth objectives.
  • Support efforts to integrate new acquisitions and investments into FSG’s broader portfolio, ensuring smooth operational alignment and sustainable performance.

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or JD preferred.
  • 6 years of experience in a corporate strategy or management consulting role, ideally with significant experience in operations optimization and strategic planning for large organizations.
  • Deep understanding of and passion for sports, media, and entertainment industries, with a focus on operational excellence and process improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across a global organization.
  • Advanced modeling skills and a high degree of proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools for data analysis and presentation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to distill complex strategic initiatives and operational challenges into actionable insights for leadership.
  • Proven success in managing multiple projects simultaneously, delivering results on time, and balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Comfort working with confidential information and a high level of discretion.
  • Experience supporting M&A activities and other transactions, with an ability to influence stakeholders and manage complex processes.
  • Demonstrated track record of contributing as a collaborative team player ready to support in whatever capacity will best advance key initiatives.
  • Ability to work in person in office located in Boston, MA.
  • Readiness to travel based on moderate travel needs, and ability to work certain nights, weekends, and holidays, where applicable based on the nature of the team and responsibilities.
