Monday: 12:00-8:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Friday: 1:00 PM-5:00 PM
Every 4th Saturday: 8:30 AM-2:00 PM
The Ferdinand Branch Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative part-time programmer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing engaging programs and activities for children. Main program responsibilities will be weekly Thursday morning storytime and monthly Monday evening crafts for children. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy, enjoys working with the public, especially children, and is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
· Work closely with Full-Time Programmer in the planning and delivery of a variety of educational and recreational programs.
· Promote library services and programs.
· Assist with creating displays, recommending books, and special events.
· Maintain a safe, fun, and respectful environment during programs.
· Will require portions of the day to be spent working at the front/circulation desk.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with children, ideally in an educational or recreational setting.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for developing youth-based programming.
- Dependable and punctual.
- A passion for books and libraries.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Associates degree preferred but not required to apply.
Library Assistant I
Part-Time Programming Assistant
Definition: Under the supervision of the Library Programmer, the Library Assistant I: Part-Time Programming Assistant is tasked with developing and running programs for children. This position requires someone who is willing to work extensively with the public and has experience with computers and tasks related to the circulation of library materials and service to the public.
Job duties: (These do not necessarily constitute all of the essential functions of this job.)
- Follows established Library and personnel policies, procedures and work standards.
- Exhibits welcoming, helpful, positive and friendly behavior to all patrons and staff at all in times in all communication formats (verbal and non-verbal).
- Plans and implements programs for Youth, with primary focus being weekly storytime and month craft activities.
o Works in continued collaboration with Full Time Programmer in planning, organizing, and running library programs, events, and activities.
o Helps prepare materials, set up spaces, and coordinate logistics for events.
o Maintains Youth program attendance records and assist with reports.
- Greets patrons and directs them to appropriate services
- Checks library materials in and out and handles any associated issues.
- Assists patrons in locating and acquiring various library materials and information in various formats including books, magazines, internet and library databases.
- Assists patrons in use of copier, computer, and other equipment and devices
- Alert patrons of fines on accounts and accurately handle monetary transactions.
- Issues library cards to patrons.
- Retrieves and re-shelves materials when necessary and keeps shelves and stacks neat & orderly
- Clerical assistance including, but not limited to, word processing, filing, and copying.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Education:
- High School diploma/GED required; Associate’s Degree or previous library/education experience preferred
Skills:

- Visual acuity to read cards and labels with various type sizes
- Hearing acuity to answer phone and patron verbal requests
