Head Grower
Job Purpose:
In the role of head grower, the incumbent will be accountable for all operational aspects for the growing department for our Jupiter, FL location. The ideal candidate would have previous nursery management experience, strong attention to detail, and superior managerial skills. The candidate must also have excellent organizational, communication, and decision making skills.
Requirements:
1. University Degree or College Diploma- Horticulture
2. Successful completion of Pesticide Course
3. Minimum of 5 years management experience in a greenhouse or manufacturing setting
4. Excellent knowledge of MS Office Programs
5. Competent problem solver and decision maker
6. Bilingual English and Spanish
Key Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for overall plant production
2. Responsible for the direction of staff
3. Responsible for liaison with other departments
4. Responsible for Managerial and Organizational duties for the department
Skills:
1. Responsible for the overall plant production
· From the management team meetings and from sales budget order seeds, plants, fertilizer, chemicals etc.
· Oversee plant propagation from production plan
· Oversee seeding, watering, fertilizing, and spraying
· Corporate accountability for production related problems
· Fiscal accountability for reports and statistics
· Analyze overall production and make recommendations as to overall production
2. Responsible for the direction of staff
· Organize and coordinate the hiring of staff
· Train staff and outline expectations
· Assign duties and responsibilities
· Schedule staff to complete departmental requirements
· Assess performance and communicate to higher level executives
· Manage employee department related issues and ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to
3. Responsible for liaison with other departments
· Participate in business meetings
· Provide input into crop problems (varieties, length, growing time, new species, etc.)
· Liaise with sales department to provide accurate scheduling
· Advise sales by touring crop to provide accurate scheduling
· Forecasting and budgeting
4. Responsible for Administrative Duties
· Assist Operations Manager and Owners in Business planning
· Preparation of reports and adherence to policies, procedures and budgets
· Deal with suppliers, government agencies, consultants, sales personnel, and other company officials
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE JOB:
The incumbent should be aware that the hours can be long at specific times of the year.
