What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR position at Ferraro Foods of New Jersey LLC?
Supervises the transportation operations for the regional location, including but not limited to routing, dispatching, and the training and development of new driver hires. The Transportation Supervisor must ensure all drivers adhere to D.O.T. regulations, state and federal laws, and OSHA requirements, as they pertain to transportation.
DISPATCH
- Possess working knowledge of morning dispatch process for both Class A & Class B Drivers
- Answer phone calls from customers, customer service, drivers, and sales representatives regarding delivery times and any issues with deliveries.
- Act as an intermediary between Transportation and Sales
- Handle call-outs from drivers and/or driver helpers, provide alternate solutions for deliveries, and communicate absences and vacation requests with the Transportation Manager, Human Resources, and Payroll in a timely fashion.
- Troubleshoot routing and delivery issues and follow up with drivers throughout the day.
- Provide communications to drivers and helpers
ROUTING
- Analyze standard routes on an ongoing basis to determine more efficient routes and instruct routers to make any necessary changes
- Review driver feedback on routes to make any feasible changes to the order/sequence of current routes.
- Supervise and audit maintenance in RoadNet
- Supervise and audit the Router’s abilities to ensure truck maximization during the routing process in terms of weight and cube
OTHER DUTIES
- Coach drivers and helpers, as needed, to improve performance and adherence to company policies.
- Counsel drivers and helpers when they do not adhere to all company policies (Attendance, Insubordination, etc) in the form of verbal and written disciplinary write-ups.
- Responsible for identifying and recommending changes in departmental policies and practices.
- Continuous contact with customers or vendors requiring the provision of services, explanations, decisions, or the obtaining of routine approvals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Report driver accidents/incidents to the DOT Safety Manager and Human Resources
- Report injuries to the DOT Safety Manager and Human Resources
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Class A or B CDL License preferred
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented with good follow-up skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and handle a busy workload in order to meet strong deadlines.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of RoadNet preferred
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma and/or equivalent work-related experience.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
