Description : Job Overview :

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Railroad Engineering and Construction Project Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for railroad engineering and construction projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. The estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to assess project requirements, gather data, and create estimates that reflect the scope of work.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Cost Estimation :

Develop detailed cost estimates for railroad engineering and construction projects, including material costs, labor, equipment, and other necessary expenses.

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine project scope and cost requirements.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs for materials and labor needed for projects.
  • Provide accurate and competitive cost estimates that align with industry standards and market trends.
  • Project Coordination :
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to identify project requirements and constraints.

  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain accurate quotes and pricing.
  • Assess project risks and propose solutions to minimize cost overruns and delays.
  • Track changes in project scope and adjust estimates accordingly.
  • Budget Development and Monitoring :
  • Assist in the development and management of project budgets, ensuring estimates align with client expectations and organizational goals.

  • Monitor project expenses and provide regular updates on cost performance.
  • Documentation and Reporting :
  • Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, contracts, and other project-related documents.

  • Prepare and submit bid proposals, including comprehensive cost breakdowns.
  • Provide regular status reports to senior management and stakeholders on the progress of cost estimation and project status.
  • Risk Assessment and Management :
  • Identify potential risks in the project scope, design, or construction and incorporate risk mitigation strategies into estimates.

  • Ensure estimates are flexible to accommodate potential changes in project scope or conditions.
  • Compliance and Standards :
  • Ensure all estimates adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

  • Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in railroad engineering and construction.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in railroad construction, engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad construction materials, processes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, ProEst, or similar tools) and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Certification in Project Management (PMP or similar).
  • Experience with large-scale railroad infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with railroad safety standards and regulations.
