JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of the Imaging Services Department. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from newborn to elderly. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in QI activities. Assures competency of all staff. Assists in formulating the budget. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all accrediting organization, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Works with hospital administration on planning, organizing and directing Imaging Services operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Makes daily rounds in Imaging Services to judge effectiveness of operation, utilization of staff and supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.
- Secures and maintains the physical facilities, equipment and supplies which are required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimum physical environment.
- Carries on continuous analysis, evaluation and audit of Imaging Services.
- Initiates and actuates improved methods of imaging services and directs their implementation.
- Prepares department budgets for staff, operating expenses and capital equipment. Responsible for fiscal operation of the department.
- Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Delegates authority and responsibility to the Imaging Services staff.
- Participates in the human resource management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation and performance appraisal processes.
- Coordinates the department’s in-service training.
- Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
- Initiates, interprets and enforces Imaging Services procedures and maintains and interprets hospital policies and procedures.
- Cooperates in planning programs and safety and preparedness for fire and disaster.
- Is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Provides staff education with an emphasis on the organizational performance quality improvement program.
- Ensures that there is adequate storage for supplies and equipment. Supplies shall be stored in the Imaging Services area. Ensures medications, contrast media are stored safely and in a locked area.
- Promotes and advances hospital-community relationships and participates in community affairs.
- Ensures preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Performs all other duties assigned by management.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Completes all mandatory education within given time-frame.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
- Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.
- Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
- Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.
- All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including not but limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- High School graduate; BS degree preferred.
- Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Certified by the State of Washington to practice and administer radiation.
- Current BLS certification.
- Some background in Imaging Services administration; experience such as Supervisor or Assistant Director of an Imaging Services department.
- At least five (5) active years in a department with diagnostic and special procedures experience.
- Current membership and active participation in the Radiologic Technologist professional organization.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
