POSITION SUMMARY
Pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients. Technicians
usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients. Technicians refer any questions regarding
prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Included but not limited to the following);
- Performs duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist. Areas of work are check routinely for maintenance of quality
control. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted standards of practice following departmental
procedures and policies as outlined in the department operations manual.
- Reads and interprets physicians’ orders received in the pharmacy and transcribes same into the pharmacy computer
medication profile.
- Fills individual patient drug bins working from a medication fill list; records doses for credit or charge; acknowledges
filling of cassette by initialing work done.
- Delivers filled cassettes and exchanges patient bins every 24 hours; transfers medications as necessary; processes
discharge patient’s cassettes; and appropriately credits patients for unused or discontinued drugs.
- Checks and removes outdated meds on a routine basis to ensure that no deteriorated meds are in stock. Keeps
appropriate records.
- Maintains competency in caring for patients of all age groups and developmental stages and maintains competency
as specifically indicated by orientation guidelines.
Requirements:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be computer literate and be able to operate Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Must possess good knowledge of office practices
- Customer service oriented, organized, and diligent
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Must have excellent grammar usage
- Demonstrates problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively and consistently with limited direct supervision
- Ability to communicate well with staff, physicians and general public
- Exhibits commitment to effective problem solving techniques when issues arise.
- Good organizational and strong communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of persons
- Understanding, courteous, and professional at all times in contacts with patients, visitors, employees, and medical
staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current Pharmacy Tech Certification required
- Must be CPR Certified
- 1-3 years of experience in a medical office or health care setting environment preferred
