Job Summary : The Director of Quality Assurance (QA) is responsible for leading and directing the organization’s quality improvement (QI) initiatives to ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting body standards, including DCF, AHCA, Joint Commission, and CARF. This role includes coordinating, communicating, and implementing QA policies and procedures, as well as overseeing QA activities and audits to improve service quality, documentation accuracy, and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Quality Improvement Leadership
  • Coordinates and communicates new QA directives, policies, and procedures to staff.

  • Chairs all Quality Improvement (QI) committees, leading initiatives to assess and enhance quality across departments.
  • Attends management and staff meetings, actively participating in QI team committees to ensure cohesive quality practices.
  • Training and Compliance Support
  • Conducts and coordinates ongoing training on Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to promote accuracy, consistency, and compliance in documentation.

  • Monitors and leads a team to audit medical and clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with DCF, AHCA, Joint Commission, CARF, and applicable insurance and company standards.
  • Provides compliance metrics to the Management Team and recommends corrective actions for any documentation not meeting standards.
  • Collaboration and Support Services
  • Works with Department Heads to establish work groups that investigate quality issues, develop action plans, and prepare necessary reports.

  • Serves as an ad hoc member of QI-related committees, including Nursing, Medical Staff, Risk Management, Safety, Pharmacy, Therapeutic, and Infection Control, providing guidance and oversight as needed.
  • Reviews departmental policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with quality improvement goals.
  • Quality Monitoring and Data Management
  • Conducts data collection and analysis, including drawing conclusions and making recommendations to improve quality processes.

  • Coordinates and supports preparation for external site visits from CARF, Department of Health, OSHA, DCF, AHCA, Joint Commission, and other agencies, managing records for review as required.
  • Monitors and ensures confidentiality and accurate handling of medical records, including coding of discharged patient charts and responding to authorized requests for information.
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Monitors medical and clinical documentation for timeliness and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Retrieves, investigates, and responds to patient grievances and complaints, coordinating necessary follow-up to resolve issues.
  • Provides ongoing training to improve quality in medical record documentation across the organization.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance Management
  • Protects confidential patient information, ensuring release only to authorized personnel.

  • Monitors the coding and abstracting of pertinent patient information for compliance and forwarding to insurance or regulatory bodies.
  • Generates monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for data analysis and review to guide quality improvement initiatives.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in quality assurance, with a strong background in healthcare compliance, quality improvement, and regulatory standards (DCF, AHCA, Joint Commission, CARF).
  • Demonstrated leadership in quality management, including experience leading QI committees and coordinating with regulatory bodies.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and a strong understanding of documentation standards.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practices, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Certification in Quality Assurance or related field (e.g., CPHQ).
  • Prior experience in behavioral health or medical administration.
  • Familiarity with performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and data analysis tools.
