Lead Electrical Engineer

Fi
New York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 1/17/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/16/2025

Welcome to Fi.

We’re a passionate team from Square, Google, Peloton, Uber, and more working to transform the dog-human relationship. Our mission? Develop cutting-edge technology to revolutionize what it means to be a dog parent. The dog industry remains firmly stuck in the past and we are here to change that. Fi is leveraging our team's talent and expertise to improve the lives of the millions of dogs in the U.S. Real-time location tracking, activity, sleep and behavior monitoring – and that's just the beginning.

The most exciting aspect of our work? Bridging the communication gap between dogs and humans. Imagine a world where everyone knows how their dog feels in real time and how to keep their best friend in good shape. That's the future we're building at Fi.

If you're someone who thrives in innovative, collaborative work environments and feels strongly about helping dogs live longer, better lives, Fi could be the perfect fit. Join us in our pursuit of the “impossible,” or as we call it here “let me find a way,” to redefine the future of dog ownership together.

Fi is Looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer!

We’re looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead the electronics design and development of Fi devices—from initial prototyping to full-scale production. This is a high-impact, independent contributor role where you’ll own critical design and development work while collaborating with a world-class, multidisciplinary team.

You'll drive electronics R&D, new product introduction, and sustaining engineering—perfect for an ambitious, detail-oriented engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and pushing the boundaries of innovation in a fast-growing hardware startup.

What You’ll Do:
  • Own the end-to-end electronics design for Fi products, from proof-of-concept to mass production.
  • Contribute to system architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection to ensure top-tier performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including domestic and overseas engineers—to manage board bring-up, engineering validation, and safety testing.
  • Optimize system architecture and power management strategies for ultra-low-power performance—because every microamp matters.
  • Work closely with overseas CM/JDM partners to drive efficient design, testing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Own and execute technical projects independently, delivering high-quality, scalable solutions.

What We’re Looking For:
  • 8 years of industry experience with a strong background in high-volume consumer electronics design.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working across technical and non-technical teams in multiple countries.
  • Deep expertise in circuit design across multiple domains, including: low-power systems & lithium-ion battery-powered devices, and Wi-Fi, LTE, GNSS, MCU/application processors
  • Sensing technologies & digital communication buses
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium preferred).
  • Advanced experience with EE lab equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers).
  • Strong understanding of RF design (radiated/conducted performance, antenna measurement, filtering, matching, desense).
  • Ability to solder SMD components down to 0201 level (under a microscope).
  • Strong understanding of firmware concepts and experience collaborating with firmware, software, and mechanical teams.
  • Proficiency in C and/or Python for embedded systems testing and debugging.
  • Proven experience leading the electronics design lifecycle from prototype through to full-scale production.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
  • Ability to travel to China as needed.
  • Dog lover—our NYC office is dog-friendly!

What’s in it for you?

  • Stocked Kitchen
  • Team Lunches
  • Perkspot Discounts
