Job Overview:
The Manufacturing Group Leader is responsible for leading the Manufacturing Technicians and overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure production goals are met. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to fostering a safe, efficient, and collaborative work environment. The Manufacturing Group Leader will serve as a key liaison between technicians, production teams, and management, driving performance, quality, and continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, coach, and mentor Manufacturing Technicians to achieve production goals.
- Assign tasks, manage schedules, and ensure adequate shift coverage.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, provide feedback, and communicate updates.
- Operational Oversight:
- Monitor daily operations to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Coordinate with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime through preventative and recovery maintenance.
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and provide guidance to technicians on resolving problems effectively.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions and track progress.
- Maintain and enforce documentation standards for equipment maintenance and operational procedures.
- Training & Development:
- Support the training of Manufacturing Technicians and production teams to identify, troubleshoot, and address maintenance needs.
- Ensure team members are proficient in root cause analysis and basic troubleshooting techniques.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring adherence to safety protocols and addressing risks promptly.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure all team members comply with company policies and industry standards.
- Administrative Duties:
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including production efficiency, equipment downtime, and team performance.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding of new Manufacturing Technicians.
Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on collaboration and accountability.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment using root cause analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and technical documentation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to interact with team members and cross-functional departments effectively.
- Flexibility to work weekends and rotating shifts as needed.
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Periods of working on feet and using tools while evaluating manufacturing equipment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required for safety.
